Checking the component, wiring and connector

Check mass air flow (MAF) sensor connector for intermittent contact resistance, oxidation according to Contact resistance and oxidation and intermittent loose connections according to Contact resistance and oxidation .

Check that there is no air leakage in the intake system or damage to hoses etc. according to Check for air leaks in the intake system .

Check signal cable between engine control module (ECM) #A22 (#22) and mass air flow (MAF) sensor #5 for an intermittent short-circuit to ground according to Short-circuit to ground, intermittent faults .

Check signal cable between engine control module (ECM) #A22 (#A22) and mass air flow (MAF) sensor #5 for an intermittent open-circuit according to Open-circuit, intermittent faults .

Check power supply cable between engine control module (ECM) #39 (#A39) and mass air flow (MAF) sensor #4 for an intermittent open-circuit according to Open-circuit, intermittent faults .

Check power supply cable between engine control module (ECM) #A70 (#A70) and mass air flow (MAF) sensor #2 for an intermittent open-circuit according to Open-circuit, intermittent faults .

Remedy as necessary

Checking component and wiring

Check that there is no air leakage in the intake system or damage to hoses etc. according to Check for air leaks in the intake system .

Check signal cable between engine control module (ECM) #A22 (#A22) and engine control module (ECM) #5 for an open circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults .

Check signal cable between engine control module (ECM) #A22 (#A22) and mass air flow (MAF) sensor #5 for a short-circuit to ground according to Short-circuit to ground, permanent faults .

Check power supply cable between engine control module (ECM) #39 (#A39) and mass air flow (MAF) sensor #4 for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults .

Check power supply cable between engine control module (ECM) #A70 (#A70) and mass air flow (MAF) sensor #2 for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults .

Remedy as necessary.

HINT: With the ignition on and boost pressure sensor connector disconnected the voltage between #1 and ground terminal should be approximately 5 V.

Check ground lead between control module #A60 (#A60) and boost pressure sensor boost pressure sensor #2 for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults

Remedy as necessary.

Checking wiring and connectors

WARNINGBefore fault-tracing can begin, the engine cooling fan (FC) relay connector must be disconnected to prevent the engine cooling fan (FC) engaging. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ECM-6110 Engine cooling fan (FC) low-speed signal may be stored. After fault-tracing the connector must be reconnected.

Note. This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor freezes. This may happen if the coolant level is low or there is too little glycol in the coolant. Check the engine coolant level and its freezing point. Remedy as necessary.

Check the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. See Contact resistance and oxidation . Check for loose connections. See Loose connections (terminals) .

HINT: The fault may have been caused by air pockets in the cooling system.

Check engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor resistance.

Note. The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor may be defective as a result of the signal cable having been short-circuited to supply voltage. Check this before replacing the sensor.

Check the signal cable between control module #A4 (#A4) engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor #1 for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults and a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Short-circuit to supply voltage. Permanent faults .

Check the resistance of the injector between terminals 1 and 2.

Check the cable between injector terminal 2 and control module

and the power supply between system relay terminal 3 and injector terminal 1 for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults .

Try a new heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) if the wiring is OK.

Check the signal cable (-) between heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) terminal #3 and control module terminal #A62 (#B2). Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Try a new heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) if the wiring is OK.

Check the signal cable (-) between heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) terminal #5 and control module terminal #A42 (#A42). Check the cable for calibration current between heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) terminal #2 and control module terminal #A28 (#A28). Check for an open-circuit. See Open-circuit, permanent faults .

Check the cable for the calibration current between heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) terminal #2 and control module terminal #A28 (#A28). Check the cable for pump current between heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) terminal #6 and control module terminal #A24 (#A24). Check for a short-circuit to each other. See Short-circuit to ground, permanent faults .

If the connector and cables are OK try a new heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
