Diagnostic test mode (DTM) 5 - Reading off data

This function is used for reading off data.

Reading off service reminder indicator (SRI) activation settings or manipulation times (Scheme 645)

  1. Switch on ignition.
  2. Select position 7 on data link connector (DLC) A.
  3. Press the button five times, briefly but distinctly.

You are now in diagnostic test mode (DTM) 5.

When the LED is lit the system can accept codes.

  1. Enter the first digit while the LED is still lit. Do not enter the second digit until the LED is lit again.
  2. Enter the second code digit when the LED is lit.
  3. Wait until the LED is lit again and enter the third digit.
  4. Read off and note response code.

Responses to codes can be read off as text in the following tables.

Diagnostic test mode (DTM) 6 - Data entry

Diagnostic test mode (DTM) 6 is used when replacing the combined instrument panel.

Note. When replacing the combined instrument panel check the following data and if necessary program it into the new combined instrument panel.

  1. 1) Speedometer calibration code (selecting speedometer type).
  2. 2) Mileage. The mileage from the old combined instrument panel must be transferred.
  3. 3) Criteria for service reminder indicator (SRI) activation are always programmed and should only be reprogrammed if another service reminder indicator (SRI) parameter is required.

Note. This programming can only be carried out once for each instrument. It is important to do it correctly. Use a text readout unit if possible.

Go into diagnostic test mode (DTM) 6

  1. Press the button five times, briefly but distinctly within 30 seconds of the response code being flashed out as above. You are now in diagnostic test mode (DTM) 6.
  2. Wait until the LED is lit.
  3. Enter the new code according to one of the tables. «Tables 1-8»(ref-408443-S17806238902011071200000) .
  4. One digit at a time.

Wait for the LED to light between each digit.

  1. Confirm what you have entered.

The control module flashes out the same code that was entered to allow you to check that you entered the correct code (if you have made a mistake start from the beginning).

Wait until the LED is lit again.

  1. To confirm that the code is correct depress the button for five seconds or more.
  2. Release the button and the lamp will go out.

DTM 1 - Self-test

The microprocessor in the dashboard can store up to 7 different kinds of fault.

The control module has a memory for DTCs. This memory retains the DTCs even if the battery is disconnected for any length of time.

Use this DTM to find out if some input signals to the dashboard are missing or if the speed data signal leads are faulty. Speed data is something the dashboard sends to a large number of other systems, such as the trip computer, cruise control, fuel and ignition system and automatic gearbox.
