How to Replace (With Mta) the Engine Control Unit Opel Vivaro A

Remove

  1. 1. For vehicles with SPS function, download data from engine control unit using Tech 2

Note. Vehicles with IMA injectors, record IMA injector code with Tech 2 for reprogramming.

  1. 2. Disconnect battery negative lead
  2. 3. For vehicles with M9R 780, M9R 782, M9R 784, M9R 786 or M9R 788 engine, disconnect intake hose from intercooler • Release clip
  1. 4. Release coolant expansion tank from bracket • Remove bolt (2) • Release 2x coolant hose from 2x clip (1)
  1. 5. Remove bonnet closure switch (if installed) from upper front panel • Remove bolt
  2. 6. Release charge pressure control valve (1) from cover • Pull off
  3. 7. Release preheater control unit (2) from cover • Remove nut (3)
  1. 8. Release harness from cover • Release 2x clip
  2. 9. Remove transmission control unit from bracket • Release rubber strap (1) • Disconnect 2x harness connector (2) – Release 2x clip (3)
  1. 10. Remove bracket for transmission control unit from cover • Release harness from bracket – Release clip (3) • Remove nut (1), bolt (2)
  1. 11. Remove shield (1) (if installed) from cover • Remove security bolt – Use suitable tool
  1. 12. Remove cover from bracket • Remove nut, 2x bolt • Release cover with lower locating peg

Note. If a tamper-proof shield is not installed, 3 bolts are removed.

  1. 13. Remove engine control unit from bracket • Disconnect 3x harness connector (1) – Release 3x clip • Remove 4x bolt

Install

  1. 14. Install new engine control unit to bracket • Connect 3x harness connector (1) – Secure 3x clip • Install 4x bolt 8 Nm
  1. 15. Install cover to bracket • Locate cover with lower locating peg • Install 2x bolt, nut
  2. 16. Install shield (1) (if installed) to cover • Install security bolt – Use suitable tool

Note. Replace security bolt if damaged.

  1. 17. Install bracket for transmission control unit to cover • Install nut (1), bolt (2) • Secure harness to bracket – Secure clip (3)
  1. 18. Install transmission control unit to bracket • Connect 2x harness connector (2) – Secure 2x clip (3) • Secure rubber strap (1)
  1. 19. Secure harness to cover • Secure 2x clip
  2. 20. Secure preheater control unit (2) to cover • Install nut (3)
  3. 21. Secure charge pressure control valve (1) to cover • Push on
  1. 22. Install bonnet closure switch (if installed) to upper front panel • Install bolt
  2. 23. Secure coolant expansion tank to bracket • Install bolt (2) • Secure 2x coolant hose to 2x clip (1)
  1. 24. For vehicles with M9R 780, M9R 782, M9R 784, M9R 786 or M9R 788 engine, connect intake hose to intercooler • Secure clip
  1. 25. For vehicles with G9U 630 engine, change engine oil and filter – see operation "Engine Oil and Filter, Change”
  2. 26. Connect battery negative lead
  3. 27. For vehicles with SPS function, program engine control unit using Tech 2
  4. 28. Program all volatile memories
