How to Replace the Engine Control Unit Opel Vivaro A

Remove

  1. 1. For vehicles with SPS function, download data from engine control unit using Tech 2 or MDI (M9R 630)

Note. Vehicles with IMA injectors, record IMA injector code with Tech 2 or MDI (M9R 630) for reprogramming.

  1. 2. Disconnect battery negative lead
  2. 3. For vehicles with M9R engine, disconnect intake hose from intercooler • Release clip
  1. 4. Release coolant expansion tank from bracket • Remove bolt (2) • Release 2x coolant hose from 2x clip (1)
  1. 5. Remove bonnet closure switch (if installed) from upper front panel • Remove bolt
  2. 6. Release charge pressure sensor (if installed) from cover • Pull off
  3. 7. Release charge pressure control valve (1) (if installed) from cover • Pull off
  4. 8. Release preheater control unit (2) (if installed) from cover • Remove nut (3)
  1. 9. Release harness from cover • Release 2x clip
  2. 10. Remove shield (1) (if installed) from cover • Remove security bolt – Use suitable tool
  1. 11. Remove cover from support bracket • Remove nut, 3x bolt • Release cover with lower locating peg

Note. If a tamper-proof shield is not installed, 4 bolts are removed.

  1. 12. Remove engine control unit from support bracket • Disconnect 3x harness connector (1) – Release 3x clip • Remove 4x bolt

Install

  1. 13. Install new engine control unit to support bracket • Connect 3x harness connector (1) – Secure 3x clip • Install 4x bolt 8 Nm
  1. 14. Install cover to support bracket • Locate cover with lower locating peg • Install 3x bolt, nut
  2. 15. Install shield (1) (if installed) to cover • Install security bolt – Use suitable tool

Note. Replace the security bolt if damaged.

  1. 16. Secure harness to cover • Secure 2x clip
  2. 17. Secure preheater control unit (2) to cover • Install nut (3)
  3. 18. Secure charge pressure control valve (1) to cover • Push on
  4. 19. Secure charge pressure sensor (if installed) to cover • Push on
  1. 20. Install bonnet closure switch (if installed) to upper front panel • Install bolt
  2. 21. Secure coolant expansion tank to bracket • Install bolt (2) • Secure 2x coolant hose to 2x clip (1)
  1. 22. For vehicles with M9R engine, connect intake hose to intercooler • Secure clip
  1. 23. For vehicles with G9U 630 engine, change engine oil and filter – see operation "Engine Oil and Filter, Change”
  2. 24. Connect battery negative lead
  3. 25. For vehicles with SPS function, program engine control unit using Tech 2 or MDI (M9R 630)
  4. 26. Program all volatile memories
  5. 27. For vehicles with F4R 820 engine, road test vehicle • In every gear, accelerate under full throttle then decelerate
