How to Remove and Install the Engine Control Unit Opel Astra H

Important: When returning a replaced control unit to Opel, do not clear the fault memory.

Note. The security code must be reset using TECH 2 when replacing or interchanging the engine control module (before removal)

Remove

  1. 1. Open bonnet
  2. 2. Read out control unit data with TECH 2 • Connect TECH 2 with diagnostic plug • Establish communication with TECH 2 • End communication with TECH 2 • Disconnect TECH 2 from diagnostic plug • Remove ignition key
  3. 3. Disconnect battery • Detach earth connection from earth terminal – Slacken nut

Note. The battery must not be disconnected until all consumers (e.g. fan) have ceased operation. However, a minimum waiting time of 30 sec. must be observed

  1. 4. Detach wiring harness for engine control unit • Disconnect 2x wiring harness plugs (3), (4) • Detach ground connection – Unscrew bolt (5) • Unclip 2x wiring harnesses
  2. 5. Detach engine control wiring harness • Detach wiring harness plug (2) from engine control unit • Detach wiring harness plug (1) from tank vent valve
  1. 6. Detach wiring harness bracket (1) from engine control unit • Unscrew 2x bolts (2)
  1. 7. Remove engine control unit (2) • Unscrew 2x bolts (1)

Install

  1. 8. Install engine control unit • Tighten 2x bolt 8 Nm

Note. To prevent damage to the engine control unit, the installation instructions must be followed exactly.

  1. 9. Attach wiring harness bracket to engine control unit • Tighten 2x bolt 8 Nm
  2. 10. Attach engine control unit wiring harness • Attach ground connection – Tighten bolt • Attach 2x wiring harness plugs to tank vent valve • Connect 2x wiring harness plugs • Clip in 2x wiring harnesses
  3. 11. Connect battery • Attach ground connection to ground terminal – Tighten nut
  4. 12. Upload control unit data with TECH 2 • Insert ignition key • Connect TECH 2 with diagnostic plug • Establish communication with TECH 2 • Disconnect TECH 2 from diagnostic plug
  5. 13. Programme transient memory
  6. 14. Close bonnet
