Fuel tank sending unit open or short code may be set by
- Fuel tank sending unit malfunction.
- Open or short circuit between fuel tank sending unit connector terminal No. 4 and PCM connector C249 terminal No. 7.
- Open or short circuit between fuel tank sending unit connector terminal No. 5 and PCM connector C254 terminal No. 8.
- Check PCM and fuel tank sending unit connectors. Repair as needed. Go to next step.
- Check continuity between fuel tank sending unit connector terminal No. 4 and PCM connector C249 terminal No. 7. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair or replace wiring.
- Check continuity between fuel tank sending unit connector terminal No. 5 and PCM connector C254 terminal No. 8. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair or replace wiring.
- Check resistance of fuel tank sending unit. Resistance is 0-5 ohms full, to 110-115 ohms empty. If resistance is okay, go to next step. If resistance is wrong, replace fuel tank sending unit.
- Clear code. Test drive vehicle and recheck for codes. If code returns, replace PCM. If code does not return, problem is intermittent.
