Note. Misfire adaptive numerator is monitored during closed throttle deceleration with A/C off, engine coolant temperature more than 75°F (23.9°C) and for more than 50 seconds after engine is started. DTC may be stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) when one of crankshaft position sensor target windows is more than 2.86 percent variance from the reference window. Possible causes are: defective crankshaft position sensor, improperly installed crankshaft position sensor, defective tone wheel (4.7L), defective flexplate/flywheel (5.2L and 5.9L), or defective connectors or wiring.
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP counter is not displayed and equal to zero, go to next step. If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP counter is displayed and equal to zero, go to step 4.
- Check for related Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) which may apply to this DTC. Ensure ignition is on with engine off. Using scan tool, read and record FREEZE FRAME data, as this data is used to determine when DTC was set. Once FREEZE FRAME data is obtained, using scan tool in MISCELLANEOUS FUNCTIONS, select CLEAR PCM (BATTERY DISCONNECT) to reset the PCM. Select MISFIRE PRE-TEST screen on scan tool. Road test vehicle and relearn the adaptive numerator. The adaptive numerator relearn is completed when the ADAPTIVE NUMERATOR DONE LEARNING line on MISFIRE PRE-TEST screen on scan tool changes to YES. If adaptive numerator relearn is completed, go to next step. If adaptive numerator relearn could not be completed, go to step 4.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect crankshaft position sensor connector and PCM connectors. On 4.7L, crankshaft position sensor is located on passenger's side of cylinder block, behind the starter. (Схема №59) On 5.2L and 5.9L, crankshaft position sensor is located on passenger's side of engine, just above the flywheel. (Схема №60) On all models, PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. Inspect crankshaft position sensor connector and PCM connectors for corroded, pushed out, miswired or damaged terminals. Inspect wiring harness between crankshaft position sensor and PCM for any possible intermittent problems. Check that crankshaft position sensor is properly installed and retaining bolt(s) are tightened to 21 ft. lbs. (29 N.m) on 4.7L or 70 INCH lbs. (7.9 N.m) on 5.2L and 5.9L. If terminals are not corroded, pushed out or damaged, wiring harness is okay and crankshaft position sensor is properly installed, reinstall connectors as necessary. Test is complete. If terminals are corroded, pushed out or damaged, wiring harness is damaged or crankshaft position sensor is not properly installed, repair as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect crankshaft position sensor connector and PCM connectors. On 4.7L, crankshaft position sensor is located on passenger's side of cylinder block, behind the starter. (Схема №59) On 5.2L and 5.9L, crankshaft position sensor is located on passenger's side of engine, just above the flywheel. (Схема №60) On all models, PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. Inspect crankshaft position sensor connector and PCM connectors for corroded, pushed out, miswired or damaged terminals. Inspect wiring harness between crankshaft position sensor and PCM for any possible intermittent problems. Check that crankshaft position sensor is properly installed and retaining bolt(s) are tightened to 21 ft. lbs. (29 N.m) on 4.7L or 70 INCH lbs. (7.9 N.m) on 5.2L and 5.9L. If terminals are not corroded, pushed out or damaged, wiring harness is okay and crankshaft position sensor is properly installed, reinstall connectors as necessary. Go to next step. If terminals are corroded, pushed out or damaged, wiring harness is damaged or crankshaft position sensor is not properly installed, repair as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
- Remove crankshaft position sensor. On 4.7L, inspect notches on tone wheel for damage, foreign material and excessive movement. Tone wheel is bolted to rear counterweight on crankshaft. These notches are used to operate the crankshaft position sensor. If notches are okay and no foreign material or excessive movement exist, replace crankshaft position sensor. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000). If notches are damaged, foreign material exists or excessive movement exists, repair or replace components as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000). On 5.2L and 5.9L, inspect the 8 notches at outer edge of flexplate/flywheel for damage and foreign material. These notches are used to operate the crankshaft position sensor. If notches are okay and no foreign material exist, replace crankshaft position sensor. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000). If notches are damaged or foreign material exist, repair or replace flexplate/flywheel as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
