DTC P0122: THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGE LOW Dodge Durango I

Note. Throttle Position (TP) sensor voltage is monitored when ignition is on and battery voltage is more than 10.4 volts. DTC may be stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) if TP sensor signal voltage at PCM is less than .1 volt for 1.3 seconds. Possible causes are: defective TP sensor, defective Transmission Control Module (TCM) on 4.7L only, defective PCM, or defective connectors or wiring.

Scheme 44

1. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read TP sensor voltage. If TP sensor voltage is less than.20 volt, go to next step. If TP sensor voltage is.20 volt or more, go to step 7.
2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TP sensor connector. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read TP sensor voltage. If TP sensor voltage is one volt or less, go to next step. If TP sensor voltage is more than one volt, replace TP sensor. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
3. Ensure ignition is on with engine off and TP sensor connector is still disconnected. Using voltmeter, check voltage at terminal No. 1 (Violet/White wire) on TP sensor connector. If voltage is 4 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 4 volts, repair open on Violet/White wire between PCM and TP sensor. PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
4. On 5.2L and 5.9L, go to next step. On 4.7L, turn ignition off. Disconnect TCM connector. TCM is bolted to front of radiator core support at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment. (Scheme 44) Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read TP sensor voltage. If TP sensor voltage.50 volt or less, go to next step. If TP sensor voltage is more than.50 volt, replace TCM. If TCM is replaced, perform shift quality quick learn procedure. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
5. On all models, turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connectors. PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. Ensure TP sensor connector is still disconnected. On 4.7L, ensure TCM connector is still disconnected. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and terminal No. 23 (Orange/Dark Blue wire) on PCM connector C1. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Orange/Dark Blue wire between PCM, TCM (4.7L) and TP sensor. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
6. Ensure PCM connectors and TP sensor connector are still disconnected. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminals No. 4 (Black/Light Blue wire) and No. 23 (Orange/Dark Blue wire) on PCM connector C1. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace PCM. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Black/Light Blue wire and Orange/Dark Blue wire between PCM and TP sensor as they are shorted together. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
7. Start engine and allow engine to idle. Using scan tool, monitor engine RPM while wiggling wiring harness and connectors between TP sensor and PCM. PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. If engine RPM does not change while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, go to next step. If engine RPM changes while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
8. Shut engine off. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, monitor TP sensor voltage while wiggling wiring harness and connectors between TP sensor and PCM. If TP sensor voltage does not change while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, go to next step. If TP sensor voltage changes while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
9. Turn ignition off. Inspect wiring harness and connectors between TP sensor and PCM. If no problems exist, go to next step. If any problems exist, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
10. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, monitor TP sensor voltage while slowly opening and closing the throttle. If TP sensor voltage changes smoothly, test is complete. If TP sensor voltage does not change smoothly, replace TP sensor. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
