DTC P0443: EVAP PURGE SOLENOID CIRCUIT Dodge Durango I

Note. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.

Note. EVAP purge solenoid operation is monitored when ignition is on and battery voltage is more than 10.4 volts. EVAP purge solenoid may also be referred to as proportional purge solenoid or duty cycle EVAP purge solenoid. DTC may be stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) if actual state of EVAP purge solenoid does not match the intended state when requested to operate by PCM on 2 consecutive ignition cycles. Possible causes are: defective EVAP purge solenoid, defective PCM, or defective connectors or wiring.

  1. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP counter is displayed and equal to zero, go to next step. If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP counter is not displayed and equal to zero, go to step 6.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EVAP purge solenoid connector. EVAP purge solenoid is located on firewall, near brake booster. (Схема №50) Turn ignition on with engine off. Using voltmeter, check voltage at terminal No. 2 (Dark Blue/White wire) on EVAP purge solenoid connector. If voltage is more that 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open between ignition switch, fuse No. 11 (10-amp) and Dark Blue/White wire between fuse No. 11 and EVAP purge solenoid. Fuse No. 11 is located in junction block on end of driver's side of instrument panel, near door opening. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
  3. Turn ignition off. Ensure EVAP purge solenoid connector is still disconnected. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between electrical terminals on EVAP purge solenoid. If resistance is 10-15 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 10-15 ohms, replace EVAP purge solenoid. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
  4. Ensure EVAP purge solenoid connector is still disconnected. Disconnect PCM connectors. PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 1 (Pink/Black wire) on EVAP purge solenoid connector and terminal No. 20 (Pink/Black wire) on PCM connector C3. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on Pink/Black wire between EVAP purge solenoid and PCM. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
  5. Ensure EVAP purge solenoid connector and PCM connectors are still disconnected. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground terminal No. 1 (Pink/Black wire) on EVAP purge solenoid connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace PCM. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Pink/Black wire between EVAP purge solenoid and PCM. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
  6. At this time, conditions for EVAP purge solenoid circuit malfunction does not exist. Ensure ignition is on with engine off. Using scan tool, read FREEZE FRAME data and attempt to duplicate the condition that caused DTC to be set while noting DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP counter. Using scan tool, actuate EVAP purge solenoid. Wiggle wiring harness and connectors between PCM and EVAP purge solenoid while listening for EVAP purge solenoid to quit operating and noting DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP counter. PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. EVAP purge solenoid is located on firewall, near brake booster. (Схема №50) If EVAP purge solenoid does not stop operating while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, and DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP counter does not change to zero, go to next step. If EVAP purge solenoid stops operating while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, or DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP counter changes to zero, repair wiring or connectors between PCM and EVAP purge solenoid as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
  7. Ensure ignition is off. Inspect wiring harness and connectors between PCM and EVAP purge solenoid. If no problems exist, test is complete. If any problems exist, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
