Note. Throttle Position (TP) sensor voltage is monitored when ignition is on and battery voltage is more than 10.4 volts. DTC may be stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) if TP sensor signal voltage at PCM is more than 4.5 volts for 3.2 seconds. Possible causes are: defective TP sensor, defective Transmission Control Module (TCM) on 4.7L only, defective PCM, or defective connectors or wiring.
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read TP sensor voltage. If TP sensor voltage is more than 4.9 volts, go to next step. If TP sensor voltage is 4.9 volts or less, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect TP sensor connector and PCM connectors. PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 3 (Black/Light Blue wire) on TP sensor connector and terminal No. 4 (Black/Light Blue wire) on PCM connector C1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on Black/Light Blue wire between TP sensor and PCM. «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
- Ensure ignition is off and TP sensor connector is still disconnected. Reinstall PCM connectors. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using voltmeter, check voltage at terminal No. 2 (Orange/Dark Blue wire) on TP sensor connector. If voltage is 5.5 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than 5.5 volts, repair short to voltage on Orange/Dark Blue wire between TP sensor, TCM (4.7L) and PCM. On 4.7L, TCM is bolted to front of radiator core support at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment. (Схема №40) On all models, perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
- Turn ignition off. Ensure TP sensor connector is still disconnected. Disconnect PCM connectors. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminals No. 1 (Violet/White wire) and No. 2 (Orange/Dark Blue wire) on TP sensor connector. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, repair Violet/White wire and Orange/Dark Blue wire between PCM and TP sensor as they are shorted together. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
- On 5.2L and 5.9L, go to next step. On 4.7L, turn ignition off. Reinstall PCM connectors. Disconnect TCM connector. TCM is bolted to front of radiator core support at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment. (Схема №40) Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read TP sensor voltage. If TP sensor voltage 5.5 volts or more, go to next step. If TP sensor voltage is less than 5.5 volts, replace TCM. Perform shift quality quick learn procedure. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
- On all models, turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connectors if not previously done. Ensure TP sensor connector is still disconnected. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 2 (Orange/Dark Blue wire) on TP sensor connector and terminal No. 23 (Orange/Dark Blue wire) on PCM connector C1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on Orange/Dark Blue wire between PCM and TP sensor. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
- Ensure ignition is off. Reinstall PCM connectors. Connect jumper wire between terminals No. 2 (Orange/Dark Blue wire) and No. 3 (Black/Light Blue wire) on TP sensor connector. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read TP sensor voltage. If TP sensor voltage is one volt or more, replace PCM. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000). If TP sensor voltage is less than one volt, replace TP sensor. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
- Start engine and allow engine to idle. Using scan tool, monitor engine RPM while wiggling wiring harness and connectors between TP sensor and PCM. PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. If engine RPM does not change while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, shut engine off. Go to next step. If engine RPM changes while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, monitor TP sensor voltage while wiggling wiring harness and connectors between TP sensor and PCM. If TP sensor voltage does not change while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, go to next step. If TP sensor voltage changes while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
- Turn ignition off. Inspect wiring harness and connectors between TP sensor and PCM. If no problems exist, go to next step. If any problems exist, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
- Ensure ignition is on with engine off. Using scan tool, monitor TP sensor voltage while slowly opening and closing the throttle. If TP sensor voltage changes smoothly, test is complete. If TP sensor voltage does not change smoothly, replace TP sensor. Perform «TEST VER-5»(ref-9482-S35719050532000102700000).
