How to Adjust the Timing Opel Zafira B

Note. Adjustment is carried out with the engine cold – at room temperature.

Remove

  1. 1. Remove air cleaner housing – see illustration "Air Duct",
  2. 2. Remove upper part of toothed belt cover – see operation "Toothed Belt Cover – Upper Part, Remove and Install".
  3. 3. Remove ribbed V-belt, – see operation "Ribbed V-belt, Remove and Install (with Air Conditioning)".
  4. 4. Remove ribbed V-belt tensioner – see operation "Ribbed V-belt Tensioner, Remove and Install (With Air Conditioning)",
  5. 5. Remove lower part of toothed belt cover – see operation "Toothed Belt Cover – Lower Part, Remove and Install".
  6. 6. Release fastening bolt for toothed belt tension roller and turn adjusting eccentric in direction of arrow (clockwise) until pointer (1) is located just before left stop.
  7. 7. Mark direction of travel of toothed belt and remove toothed belt from camshaft pulleys. Caution
  8. 8. When turning the crankshaft, proceed carefully. Improper adjustment leads to contacting and thus to damage of components, e.g. valves on piston,
  1. 9. Slacken securing bolts (3) on KM-6347 (1). Insert KM-6347, together with KM-956-1 (2) into camshaft sprocket - ensure it is seated correctly.

Note. Grooves of KM-6347 (arrows) must engage in camshaft sprocket.

  1. 10. Turn KM-6347 in direction of arrow and tighten securing bolts.

Adjust

  1. 11. Set camshaft sprockets to mark (shorter method). The mark (1) on the cylinder head cover must be aligned with the notches on the camshaft sprockets. Fix camshaft sprockets in position with KM-853 (3). Observe timing mark - marks (2) must align with each other. Install, attach
  2. 12. Install toothed belt – ensure that tensioned side (I) is taut. Adjust toothed belt tension – see operation "Toothed Belt Tension, Adjust".

Install

  1. 13. Install lower part of toothed belt cover – see operation "Toothed Belt Cover – Lower Part, Remove and Install".
  2. 14. Install ribbed V-belt tensioner – see operation "Ribbed V-belt Tensioner, Remove and Install (With Air Conditioning)",
  3. 15. Install ribbed V-belt, – see operation "Ribbed V-belt, Remove and Install (with Air Conditioning)".
  4. 16. Install upper part of toothed belt cover – see operation "Toothed Belt Cover – Upper Part, Remove and Install".
  5. 17. Install air cleaner housing – see illustration "Air Ducts",
