The timing chain enables the camshafts to be driven by the crankshaft. Sprockets are mounted on the crankshaft and the left camshaft.

The timing chain assembly is protected by a soundproof cover.

Timing Chain Alignment Marking

Both camshaft and crankshaft sprockets are provided with timing marks that must align with the two copper chain links. These markings are only in alignment on initial assembly with the No. 1 cylinder at top dead centre, and the positioning pin EN-48330 engaged.

• Service: When installing the timing chain, the two copper links must align with timing marks on the sprockets.

When installing the timing chain, it must be positioned correctly in the groove of each guide.
