Remove
- 1. Remove sheathed glow plugs
- 2. Raise vehicle by its full height
- 3. Remove engine compartment cover and/or right-hand engine splash guard if necessary
- 4. Move crankshaft in direction of engine rotation to "Cylinder 1 TDC of combustion stroke" • Marks (1) must align with each other
Note. The cams of cylinder 1 must be at the top - the position of the cams can be checked through the oil filler port. If the cams of cylinder 1 are not at the top, turn the crankshaft one revolution to cylinder 1 combustion stroke TDC
- 5. Mark torsional vibration damper to provide assistance • Mark must be at exactly 180° relative to the TDC mark
- 6. Lower vehicle by its full height
- 7. Unscrew and remove cover of oil filler port
Important. Carefully and slowly open the coolant compensation tank cap. Risk of burns.
- 8. Unscrew and remove cover of coolant expansion tank
- 9. Pull out oil dipstick
Measure
- 10. Calibrate pressure loss meter
Note. Follow manufacturer's instructions
- 11. Attach pressure loss tester to cylinder 1 • Use KM-6367
- 12. Engage 4th gear, put the handbrake on
- 13. Check pressure loss in cylinder 1 • Max. pressure difference between the individual cylinders 10% approx. • The pressure loss per cylinder should not exceed 25% • Check escaping air to localise the damage on: – intake ducts – exhaust system – Coolant compensation tank, oil dipstick guide tube – oil filler port – Tapped hole for sheathed glow plug
- 14. Transfer adapter and pressure loss tester to cylinder 3
- 15. Repeat pressure loss test on cylinders 3, 4 and 2
Note. Each time turn crankshaft a further 180° to the guide mark or the TDC mark
Install
- 16. Close cover of coolant compensation tank
- 17. Install oil filler port closure cap
- 18. Install oil dipstick
- 19. Raise vehicle by its full height
- 20. Remove engine compartment cover and/or right-hand engine splash guard if necessary
- 21. Lower vehicle by its full height
- 22. Install sheathed glow plug
