Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).

Scheme 661: DTC P1297: ELD Circuit Low Voltage
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  2. Check the ELD in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Is 72 A or more indicated? YES -Go to step 3. NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ELD and the ECM.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  4. Disconnect the ELD 3P connector.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  6. Check the ELD in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Is 72 A or more indicated? YES -Go to step 7. NO -Go to step 11 .
  7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  8. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
  9. Disconnect ECM connector A (44P).
  10. Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal A23 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair short in the wire between the ECM (A23) and the ELD, then go to step 13 . NO -Go to step 20 .
  11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  12. Replace the ELD (see «ELD REPLACEMENT»(ref-355119-S16952774612010012000000) ).
  13. Reconnect all connectors.
  14. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  15. Reset the ECM with the HDS.
  16. Do the ECM idle learn procedure (see «ECM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-255526-S39475388272007060300000) ).
  17. Start the engine.
  18. Turn on the headlights.
  19. Check for Pending or Confirmed or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P1297 indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ELD and the ECM, then go to step 1 . NO -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed or DTCs are indicated, go to the «INDICATED DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-355119-S39784062052010012000000) .
  20. Reconnect all connectors.
  21. Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software (see «ECM UPDATE»(ref-355119-S38923566472010012000000) ), or substitute a known- good ECM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE ECM»(ref-379880-S34678618312010121600000) ).
  22. Start the engine.
  23. Turn on the headlights.
  24. Check for Pending or Confirmed or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P1297 indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ELD and the ECM. If the ECM was updated, substitute a known-good ECM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE ECM»(ref-379880-S34678618312010121600000) ), then go to step 22 . If the ECM was substituted, go to step 1 . NO -If the ECM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the ECM was substituted, replace the original ECM (see «ECM REPLACEMENT»(ref-355119-S26942562032010012000000) ). If any other Pending or Confirmed or DTCs are indicated, go to the «INDICATED DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-355119-S39784062052010012000000) .
