Fuel Pipe Connector O-ring Replacement
Note. To prevent O-ring contamination, be sure the O-rings and their mating surfaces are clean just before assembly. Install the O-rings with clean hands. Do not install the O-rings while wearing fibrous gloves. Do not twist the O-rings.

Scheme 1090: Fuel Pipe Connector O-ring Replacement

- Remove the old O-ring.
- Wrap vinyl tape around the threads, and coat the surface of the tape with silicone oil or grease. NOTE: Wrap the vinyl tape (A) so that there is no stepped portion.
- Install a new O-ring (A) into the groove. NOTE: Be careful not damage the sealing face of the O-ring.
- Using a small brush, apply silicone oil or grease to the outer surface of the O-ring.
- Remove the vinyl tape.

- Relieve fuel pressure between the engine and the manual shut-off valve (see «FUEL PRESSURE RELIEVING»(ref-379885-S00491482462010121600000) ).
- Drain the engine coolant, refer to the «COOLANT REPLACEMENT»(ref-255494-S16435980892007060300000) .
- Remove the cowl cover and under-cowl panel, refer to the «COWL COVER REPLACEMENT»(ref-255527-S15281345902007060300000) .
- Remove the fuel pressure regulator protector (A).
- Remove the fuel feed hose (B), then disconnect the hoses (C) and the fuel line (D). NOTE: Always use two wrenches when removing or installing the fuel line nuts (see «FUEL LINE INSPECTION»(ref-379885-S35930191402010121600000) ).
- Disconnect the connectors (E), then remove the bolts (F) and the nut (G).
- Raise the vehicle on a lift.
- Remove exhaust pipe A, refer to the «EXHAUST PIPE AND MUFFLER REPLACEMENT»(ref-255498-S38005565432007060300000) .
- Remove the heat shield (A).
- Remove fuel pressure regulator P1 (A) from the bracket (B).
- Move fuel pressure regulator P1 (A) as shown.
- Remove fuel pressure regulator P1 (A).
- Remove the stay (A).
- Install fuel pressure regulator P1 in the reverse order of removal. Be careful not to deform any of the lines, and assemble them securely when you reinstall the heater hoses. NOTE: Apply silicone oil or polyalkyleneglycol (PAG) oil to a new O-ring and the fuel pressure regulator (see «FUEL PIPE CONNECTOR O-RING REPLACEMENT»(ref-379885-S02340840912010121600000) ).
- Refill the radiator with engine coolant, refer to the «COOLANT REPLACEMENT»(ref-255494-S16435980892007060300000) .
- Do the leak inspection procedure (see «LEAK INSPECTION»(ref-379885-S28545624302010121600000) ).

- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

- Remove the bolts (A).

- Raise the vehicle on a lift.
- Remove the under-floor cover (see step 3 on page 11-153).
- Remove the fuel lines (B), the stay (C), and the bolts (D). Replace fuel filter A. Make sure the arrow is pointing towards the engine. NOTE: Always use two wrenches when removing or installing fuel line nuts (see «FUEL LINE INSPECTION»(ref-379885-S35930191402010121600000) ).
- Apply silicone grease (PARKER CHRISTO-LUBE) to the new O-rings (E), and carefully install them into their proper positions (see «FUEL PIPE CONNECTOR O-RING REPLACEMENT»(ref-379885-S02340840912010121600000) ).
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. NOTE: When assembling the stay and fuel filter A, make sure the IN mark (F) is visible.

Fuel Filter B Element Replacement

- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. NOTE: If the fuel filter B housing is rusty or damaged, replace the housing and its seal (D).

- Remove the FTT sensor (B), the FTP sensor (C), and the bolts (D).

Note. You must be an SCI-certified technician to do fuel tank inspection or replacement work. This procedure degrades the integrity of the fuel tank. If you do it, do not reinstall the original fuel tank. Install a new one. Wear gloves while handing the fuel tank.

- Raise the vehicle on a lift.
- Remove the under-floor cover (A).
- Remove the three fuel pipes (A) at the fuel joint block (B) and the two fuel joint block mounting bolts (C). NOTE: Always use two wrenches when removing or installing fuel pipe nuts (see «FUEL LINE INSPECTION»(ref-379885-S35930191402010121600000) ). Apply silicone oil or polyalkyleneglycol (PAG) oil to the new O-rings (D), and carefully install them into their proper positions (see «FUEL PIPE CONNECTOR O-RING REPLACEMENT»(ref-379885-S02340840912010121600000) ).
- Lower the vehicle. Remove the left-rear door, refer to the «REAR DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-255564-S19080695392007060300000) , then disconnect the connector (A).
- Remove the rear seat (see «REAR SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-379900-S11722237892010121600000) ).
- Remove the rear seat belt, refer to the «REAR SEAT BELT REPLACEMENT»(ref-255571-S35920100902007060300000) .
- Remove the C-pillar trim, refer to «TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - PILLAR AREAS»(ref-255561-S14202353672007060300000) ).
- Remove the rear shelf (see «TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - REAR SHELF AREA»(ref-379901-S21427027612010121600000) ) and the trunk floor lid (see «TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - TRUNK AREA»(ref-379901-S38309908612010121600000) ).
- Remove the trunk partition (see «TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - TRUNK AREA»(ref-379901-S38309908612010121600000) ).
- Remove the gussets (A).
- Remove the harness clip (A) and the rear parcel cover (B).
- Remove the harness clip (A) and the rear shelf gussets (B).
- Remove the rear floor upper cross-member gusset, refer to «REAR FLOOR UPPER CROSS-MEMBER GUSSET REPLACEMENT»(ref-255578-S08659597362007060300000) .
- Remove the bolts (A).
- Disconnect the vent hose (A) from the fuel tank (B).
- Remove the tank frame mounting bolts (A). FRONT
- Push the front seats forward, then cover the seats and the floor with a tarp or similar material.
- With the help of two other technicians, lift the frame, and slide the entire fuel tank assembly (A) into the passenger compartment. Be careful not to damage the fuel joint block.
- Rotate the fuel tank so the fuel joint block and the frame can clear the door opening, then carefully remove the fuel tank assembly from the vehicle.
- Install the new fuel tank assembly in the reverse order of removal. NOTE: Do this when you install the left rear door: Tighten the door checker mounting bolt, refer to «REAR DOOR WEATHERSTRIP REPLACEMENT»(ref-255564-S11138371092007060300000) . Adjust the door position, refer to «FRONT AND REAR DOOR POSITION ADJUSTMENT»(ref-255564-S20570323662007060300000) .
- Open the manual lock-down valves on the new tank. (New tank come with these valves closed).
- Do the leak inspection procedure (see «LEAK INSPECTION»(ref-379885-S28545624302010121600000) ).
