Remove camshaft and valve lifters.
Remove spark plugs.
Rotate crankshaft by hand to set piston of relevant cylinder to Bottom Dead Center (BDC).
Thread pressure hose VW 653/3 with seal into spark plug hole until hand-tight, then apply continuous air pressure of at least 6 bar (87 psi). see scheme 83: Using Lever VW 541/1 And Thrust Piece VW 541/5 (Engine Code ABZ)
