The engine is installed in the reverse order of removal, with the addition of the following special conditions and steps

- Check hydraulic oil level and top off if necessary.
- Make sure that dowel sleeves for engine/transmission alignment are installed in cylinder block; install if necessary.
- Always replace self-locking nuts.
- Top off coolant, see «COOLING SYSTEM, DRAINING AND FILLING»(ref-196862-S32357803552005100900000).
- Align exhaust system free of stress: Engine code ABZ, see «EXHAUST SYSTEM, ALIGNING FREE OF STRESS»(ref-196864-S15234250202005100900000) Engine code AEW, see «EXHAUST SYSTEM, ALIGNING FREE OF STRESS»(ref-196864-S09538464852005100900000)
- Check oil level before starting engine.
- Check automatic transmission fluid level.
- Install torque support free of stress; compensate with washers if necessary. see scheme 38: Installing Torque Support Free Of Stress
- Shake engine to align engine mounts free of stress. CAUTION: To avoid corrosion caused by contact between dissimilar metals, all replacement fasteners should be genuine Audi parts with the special surface coating, recognizable by its greenish color.
