Note. Engine at running temperature (oil temperature >= 80 °C)
Inspect
- 1. Open bonnet
- 2. Unscrew cap of coolant compensation tank
- 3. Check coolant level. • If necessary, top up cooling to KALT/COLD mark
- 4. With engine running, place test device (1) on coolant compensation tank.
- 5. Extract air from the coolant compensation tank by operating the rubber bellows. Take care not to extract any coolant. If the blue liquid in the upper chamber of the tester turns yellow the cylinder head gasket or the cylinder head has a leak.
- 6. How it works: the transparent cylinder of the tester contains a blue reactive fluid which turns yellow when air containing even a minute amount of carbon monoxide is sucked in. When fresh air is sucked in the test fluid regenerates, i.e. it turns blue again.
- 7. The fluid can be checked by exposing it to exhaust emissions from the exhaust pipe. The test fluid should then turn yellow.
- 8. Close coolant compensation tank
- 9. Close bonnet
