Subject: Fuel Selection, Octane-Number Coding
Models: All vehicles equipped with an Octane Coding Plug
As of Model Year '87 a number of engines have been equipped with the most modern electronic ignition and fuel injection systems. These engines allow selection between two fuel qualities (octane-numbers). Selection may be accomplished by reversing the octane coding plug. Specific details and handling instructions for the octane coding plug are covered in the respective owners manuals and the workshop literature.
Deviating from previously published information in the Service Literature, some new type octane coding plugs are now being production-installed. By means of this new type octane coding plugs such other sets of ignition curves are being selected, which are even better suited to the different fuel qualities available in Europe.
Listed in the following table are the previous as well as the new type octane coding plugs.
