Trouble-shooting: Nominal Value: Cause of Trouble:

Ignition ON

· Remove air flow sensor plug 0.1 to 0.3 V · Short circuit of signal lead Ter. 2

(signal lead) with Ter. 3 (+)

· Control unit defective

· Bridge Ter. 3 (+) with Ter. 2 > 4.2 V · Lead interruption or short to ground from

(signal lead) at air flow sensor - Control unit Ter. 9 (+) to AFS Ter. 3

plug with adapter lead from KM-609 - Control unit Ter. 7 (signal lead) to

AFS Ter. 2

· Control unit defective

· Check voltage between 4.9 to 5.1 V · Lead interruption from control unit

Ter. 3 (+) and Ter. 4 (-) at AFS plug Ter. 6 (-) to AFS Ter. 4

with multimeter

If nominal values attained · AFS electrically defective

· Air valve jamming (observe scoring marks)

· Carry out noise check

AFS checking values:

Ter. 2 (signal lead) /Ter.4 (-): 8 to 2500 W

Ter. 3 (+) /Ter.4 (-): 300 to 550 W

Note: The terminal designations are located under the insulation of the AFS plug.

AFS Noise Check

Checking Equipment: Opel Tester or Multimeter MKM-587-A

Checking: Adapt AFS terminals 2, 3 and 4 with leads from KM-609

Example: Checking with Opel Tester

- Red checking lead to AFS Ter. 2 (signal lead)

- Black checking lead to AFS Ter. 4 (ground)

- Adjust Tester: "Multi", "U", "Spec.", "%", "10 V"

- Connect black terminal to battery negative terminal

- Ignition ON

- Open air valve slowly and evenly

Nominal Value: 0.17 to 4.9 and oscilloscope diagram 1

AFS defective if signal same as oscilloscope diagram 2

Horizontal line travels up the screen according to the opening of the air valve and returns to the original position.

If the horizontal line is broken or very irregular the air flow sensor is defective.
