The main change to the common rail system compared with the old Z 17 DT, is that the rail on the Z 17 DTR has been moved. The rail is now bolted to the intake manifold from above. This improves access for servicing purposes.
Rail pressure is 1800 bar and up to 5 injections per combustion cycle are now possible.
Because of the high rail pressure, very high temperatures occur in the fuel system. For this reason, a temperature sensor has been installed in the high-pressure pump. Using information from the temperature sensor, the engine control unit can respond by implementing internal engine measures when the fuel temperature is too high.
