Engine Mechanics - K10B 6 illustrations ~743 words

Remove

  1. 1. Raise vehicle
  2. 2. Remove splash panel from vehicle, right side • Remove 2x bolt (1), 4x clip (2)
  1. 3. Lower vehicle
  2. 4. Remove cylinder head cover – see operation “Cylinder Head Cover Replacement”
  3. 5. Rotate crankshaft clockwise until notch (4) on crankshaft aligns with '0' timing mark (3) on timing chain cover, with No. 1 piston at top dead centre on compression stroke
  4. 6. Ensure that 2x match mark (1, 2) on 2x camshaft sprocket align with cylinder head surface

Measure

  1. 7. Rotate crankshaft clockwise until lobe (1) of camshaft is 180° opposite flat surface (2) of tappet to be measured

Note. The valve will be fully closed at this stage.

  1. 8. Check valve clearance • Use suitable feeler gauge (commercially available) • Record clearance 1. Intake 0.14 mm - 0.23 mm 2. Exhaust 0.30 mm - 0.40 mm

Note. Ensure the engine is cold.

Note. Specified clearances.

  1. 9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 for remaining clearances

Adjust

  1. 10. Remove plug (1) from timing chain cover
  1. 11. Apply tension to timing chain (2) • Install M8 bolt (1) 1.25 thread pitch to timing chain cover – Dimension X = 30 mm
  1. 12. Remove sprocket (1) from exhaust camshaft • Counterhold camshaft with spanner • Remove bolt
  1. 13. For K10B engine, remove intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft from cylinder head • Remove 17x bolt, 7x camshaft bearing cap in sequence shown
  1. 14. For K12B engine, remove intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft from cylinder head • Remove 21x bolt, 9x camshaft bearing cap in sequence shown
  1. 15. Remove tappet (1) from cylinder head

Note. Remove all the tappets that require replacement (valve clearance not within specification) and note position.

  1. 16. Measure thickness of tappet (1) • Use micrometer • Record measurement of dimension X
  1. 17. Calculate thickness of new tappet required • Add measured clearance (recorded in step 8) to thickness of existing tappet (recorded in step 16) • Subtract specified clearance 1. Intake 0.14 mm - 0.23 mm 2. Exhaust 0.30 mm - 0.40 mm • Record calculated result

Note. Use the following specified clearances

Install

  1. 18. Install new tappet (1) to cylinder head • Select a tappet of the nearest size below the value calculated (recorded in step 17) • Lubricate tappet with clean engine oil

Note. Install all the tappets that required replacement in positions noted on removal.

  1. 19. For K10B engine, clean mating surfaces of 7x camshaft bearing cap and cylinder head
  2. 20. For K12B engine, clean mating surfaces of 9x camshaft bearing cap and cylinder head
  3. 21. For K10B engine, install intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft to cylinder head • Align match mark (1) on intake camshaft sprocket with match mark (2) on timing chain • Position notch pin (3) of exhaust camshaft upward • Apply clean engine oil to 17x bolt and 7x camshaft bearing cap • Install 7x camshaft bearing cap, 17x bolt 11 Nm , in stages, in sequence shown
  1. 22. For K12B engine, install intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft to cylinder head • Align match mark (1) on intake camshaft sprocket with match mark (2) on timing chain • Position notch pin (3) of exhaust camshaft upward • Apply clean engine oil to 21x bolt and 9x camshaft bearing cap • Install 9x camshaft bearing cap, 21x bolt 11 Nm , in stages, in sequence shown
  1. 23. Install Camshaft Sprocket Guide EN-49148 (3) to exhaust camshaft
  2. 24. Install the timing chain to exhaust camshaft • Align match mark (2) on timing chain with match mark (1) on sprocket • Install sprocket to exhaust camshaft

Note. Ensure tension is applied to timing chain when installing sprocket.

  1. 25. Remove Camshaft Sprocket Guide EN-49148 (3) from exhaust camshaft
  1. 26. Secure sprocket to exhaust camshaft • Counterhold camshaft with spanner • Install bolt (1) 60 Nm – Use Open Ended Spanner Set MKM-6600-300
  1. 27. Remove M8 bolt from timing chain cover
  2. 28. Install plug (1) to timing chain cover 25 Nm • Install new gasket
  1. 29. Check that 2x match mark (1, 2) on 2x camshaft sprocket align with cylinder head surface
  2. 30. Check that notch (4) on crankshaft aligns with timing mark (3) on timing chain cover
  3. 31. Rotate crankshaft 2x fully clockwise and check again that match marks align
  1. 32. Install cylinder head cover – see operation “Cylinder Head Cover Replacement”
  2. 33. Raise vehicle
