Inspect

1. 1. Ensure the engine is at normal operating temperature
2. 2. Remove cap from radiator • Slowly open cap and carefully release pressure
3. 3. Check coolant level • Top up coolant if necessary
4. 4. Install tester equipment (commercially available) to radiator

Note. Pay attention to manufacturer-specific regulations.

5. 5. Start engine
6. 6. Test engine for leaks • The air is drawn out of the radiator by the operation of the rubber boot

Note. The transparent cylinder of the tester contain a blue reactive fluid that turns yellow if air is drawn in that contains the slightest traces of carbon monoxide. When fresh air is drawn in the test fluid is regenerated, i.e. it turns blue again.

Note. No coolant must be drawn in – If the blue liquid in the top chamber of the tester turns yellow, the cylinder head gasket or the cylinder head is leaking.

7. 7. Testing the tester • The liquid can be tested by drawing in the exhaust from the exhaust pipe – In this case the test liquid must turn yellow
8. 8. Remove tester • Carefully release the pressure
9. 9. Install cap to radiator
