Role
Configuration allows the same engine management control unit to be used for different vehicles with different equipment (automatic gearbox, heating/ventilation...)
The control unit contains in its memory a single software package, but several sets of calibrations can be selected by this configuration operation
The general intention is to significantly reduce the number of control unit part numbers
Configuration operation
The configuring operation consists in making the control unit functional by configuring it in terms of the equipment to be found on the vehicle
The first configuring operation is carried out at initial production, the control unit is thus made operational when new vehicles are delivered
The configuring operation is carried out in service only when a control unit is replaced
Control units are, in fact, supplied not configured, the Parts fiches give the control unit part numbers with configuration
In the first instance, configuring is carried out on BOSCH MP7.2/MP7.3 injection systems, the equipment to be configured is
- Vehicle type (306, 206...)
- Type of gearbox (manual or automatic gearbox)
For future systems, other choices of equipment will be configured
- Alternator class
- Speed control
- ...
NoteWhen configuring new software, in no circumstances is it necessary to repeat downloading of the control unit; in fact the downloading operation does not erase the previous configuration
Tools required
TEP 92: to 206
DIAG 2000: all vehicles
NoteThe Configuration menu is present only if it is possible to configure the control unit
Control unit not configured
If there is no configuration, the vehicle operates in downgraded mode
- The vehicle can be driven
- The engine speed is restricted to 3000 rpm
- An associated fault code indicates that the operation has not been carried out
- Diagnostic warning lamp lights
NoteOnly the configuration operation can clear the fault code and switch off the diagnostic light
However, even if the control unit is not configured, all the following diagnostic operations are possible
- Reading and clearing of faults (unless there is a Configuration fault)
- Measure parameters (reading dynamic information)
- Identification of the control unit
- Actuator tests
