Checking and Adjustment Operations

Compression, Check

Engine at operating temperature (oil temperature ≥ 80 C/176 F). Use compression recorder with rubber cone and range up to 1750 kPa (17.5 bar).

Remove all spark plugs. Disconnect wiring harness plug from ignition coil (see illus.). C 14 SE, X 12 SZ and X 14 SZ: Disconnect wiring harness plug from DIS module. Remove fuel pump relay - see corresponding operation.

Check compression. Press rubber cone of compression tester into each spark plug thread and actuate starter with throttle valve fully opened until pressure no longer increases. Minimum engine speed approx. 300 rpm. Permissible pressure difference between individual cylinders (between smallest and largest value): 100 kPa (1 bar).

Install spark plugs - 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft. Wiring harness plug to ignition coil, or for C 14 SE, X 12 SZ and X 14 SZ, connect wiring harness plug to DIS ignition module. Install fuel pump relay - see corresponding operation.
