Timing Belt, Remove and Install

Air cleaner assembly (1) - see corresponding operation.

Heater fan intake ducting (3) - release from spring clips.

Radiator - see corresponding operation.

Brake servo hose (2) and throttle cable (4) from intake manifold and engine top cover - bolt and clips.

Brake servo hose (2) from vacuum pump - clip.

Coolant fan (2) - bolts and washers.

Oil filler cap.

Engine top cover - nuts.

Do not attempt to slacken crankshaft pulley bolt with Locking Pins installed, or damage may occur.

Slacken crankshaft pulley bolt, then retighten bolt by hand only.

Turn crankshaft to align timing marks (1 and 2) on cylinder head cover and camshaft pulley, and timing marks (4 and 5) on timing belt lower cover and crankshaft pulley - number 1 piston to be at TDC on compression stroke.

Insert Locking Pin KM-966 (Mot. 910) through hole in ancillary drive pulley to lock injection pump in set position.

Crankshaft pulley - bolt.

Timing belt lower cover - bolts, nut (3) and washer.

Position of tension roller (3) - slacken nut of tension roller, compress tensioner where shown (arrowed) to move roller away from belt and then retighten nut to lock roller in position.

Idler roller (1) - bolt and washer.

Timing belt.

Timing belt for oil stains. Replace timing belt if oil stains are apparent.

Do not twist or bend timing belt, or compress with tools, as damage may result.

Idler roller (1) - bolt and washer.

Nut and washer from tension roller.

Do not tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to full torque until after the Locking Pins (2) have been removed, to prevent damage.

Crankshaft pulley - insert Locking Pin KM-966 (Mot. 910) (2), through timing hole in pulley, into timing belt lower cover to align timing marks (3 and 4); do not fully tighten crankshaft pulley bolt at this stage.

Timing belt tension.

Undo nut to release tension roller (1) and remove Locking Pins (2). Tighten nut.

Lock crankshaft in set position and fully tighten crankshaft pulley bolt.

Turn crankshaft 720 degrees, then adjust belt tension by releasing and retightening nut of tension roller (1).

Crankshaft pulley bolt - 200 Nm.

Timing marks.

Lock crankshaft pulley and ancillary drive pulley in position with Locking Pins.

Timing belt upper cover - bolts.

Engine top cover - nuts.

V-belt (1) - see corresponding operation.

Throttle cable (4) to injection pump lever.

Brake servo hose (2) to vacuum pump - clip.

Brake servo hose (2) and throttle cable (4) to intake manifold and engine top cover - bolt and clips.

Radiator - see corresponding operation.

Heater fan intake ducting (3) - spring clips.
