Important: For vehicles with Stop Start system, the stop start control module stores a starter motor driving counter. When the counter exceeds 180,000 a diagnostic trouble code is detected and the instrument panel warning light is lit. The starting motor assembly must then be replaced.
Remove
Important. Before removing the starter motor, perform the following procedure. Record the "Starter Drive Counter" displayed on the Data List of Tech 2.
- 1. Download data from stop start system control module using Tech 2 • Connect Tech 2 to diagnostic socket • Select F0: DIAGNOSTICS • Select corresponding vehicle identification • Select F4: BODY • Select Stop Start Control Module • Follow menu guide in Tech 2 to end of program • Turn off Tech 2; then disconnect from diagnostic socket
- 2. Disconnect battery negative lead • Release nut
- 3. Release starter motor from transmission • Remove bolt (1) from starter motor
- 4. Raise vehicle
- 5. Disconnect harness from starter motor • Remove nut (2) • Disconnect harness connector (4)
- 6. Remove starter motor from vehicle • Remove bolt (3)
Install
- 7. Install new starter motor to vehicle • Install bolt (3) 45 Nm
- 8. Connect harness to starter motor • Connect harness connector (4) • Install nut (2) 11 Nm
- 9. Lower vehicle
- 10. Secure starter motor to transmission • Install bolt (1) 45 Nm
- 11. Connect battery negative lead • Secure nut 11 Nm
- 12. Program all volatile memories – see operation “Program Volatile Memories”
- 13. Program stop start system control module • Connect Tech 2 to diagnostic socket • Select F0: DIAGNOSTICS • Select corresponding vehicle identification • Select F4: BODY • Select Stop Start Control Module • Follow menu guide in Tech 2 to end of program • Turn off Tech 2; then disconnect from diagnostic socket
