Battery Diagnosis Opel Agila B

Engine Electrical ~350 words

Important: In general, the safety stipulations for the electrics/electronics should be observed for vehicle batteries

The Battery Tester EL-42000-EU was introduced as dealer's equipment as of model year 2001. It permits reliable and fast definition of the current condition of the battery. This is important both for diagnosis on batteries in the vehicle and also for stored batteries. When carrying out diagnosis on installed batteries it is not necessary to remove or disconnect the battery when using this tester. After performing the test, the battery states the result for the condition of the battery as plain text. Issuing a test code is additional and serves to summarise the results for warranty claims. In a warranty situation, the test code issued must be entered by hand on the warranty claim. The safety regulations must be observed in charging procedures arising as a consequence of the test. The battery must be disconnected for charging.

Note. Do not perform the battery test immediately after charging. There should be an interval of 12 to 24 hours between charging and the battery test or alternatively switch on consumers (headlights, rear window heating) for approx. 3 minutes. Then the battery test can be undertaken.

Note. A battery that has been charged with a low voltage (less than 14.9 V) may be been found to be "good" by the tester although the battery eye remains black due to "acid layering". These batteries must not be replaced, since the battery eye will turn green whilst driving due to electrolyte mixing.

Note. Batteries which are stored for relatively long periods must be charged approximately every six months. If vehicles are in storage, the negative lead should be disconnected and the battery should also be recharged every six months. If batteries that have been held in storage are being used, the ones that have been stored longest should be used first.

Stop Start System

Important: If the battery is charged with an external power source while the battery is still connected to the vehicle then the battery negative cable should be disconnected for approximately 5 seconds after charging.
