BACKFIRE

  1. Check ignition timing and ignition circuit.
  2. Check Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system.
  3. Check Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor circuit
  4. Check fuel pressure.
  5. Check fuel evaporative emission circuit.
  6. Check Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system.
  7. Check Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve
  8. Check front Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) circuit.
  9. Check main power supply and ground circuits.
  10. Check engine mechanical condition.

ENGINE STALLS

  1. Check idle speed adjustment.
  2. Check Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve
  3. Check Throttle Position (TP) sensor adjustment and circuit.
  4. Check fuel injectors.
  5. Check fuel pressure.
  6. Check fuel pressure regulator.
  7. Check ignition spark and spark plugs.
  8. Check timing belt (if equipped).
  9. Check for intake air leaks.

ENGINE RUN-ON (DIESELING)

UNSTABLE IDLE
