- Check Input Signal Circuit Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between CMP sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 (White wire) and ECM harness connector terminals No. 46 and No. 47. If no continuity exists, repair open in White wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check Ground Circuit Turn ignition off. Loosen and retighten engine ground screws. Disconnect CMP sensor harness connector. (Scheme 14) Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between CMP sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and ground. If no continuity exists, repair open in Black wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check Component Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between CMP sensor terminals. Ensure resistance is as follows: For Hitachi CMP sensor, resistance should be 1440-1760 ohms at 68°F (20°C). For Mitsubishi CMP sensor, resistance should be 1440-1760 ohms at 68°F (20°C).
If resistance is not as specified, replace CMP sensor. If resistance is as specified, loosen and retighten engine ground screws. Check connector terminals for damage or corrosion. Repair if necessary and perform FINAL CHECK . If fault is still present, replace camshaft sprocket.
