The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the Engine Control Module (ECM) registers that the front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) preheating circuit (bank 2) has a short-circuit to supply voltage.

The engine cylinders are counted from the cylinder furthest away from the flywheel.

  1. Bank 1 (cylinder row nearest the front): cylinders 1, 3, 5 and 7.
  2. Bank 2 (cylinder row furthest to the rear, nearest the passenger compartment): cylinders 2, 4, 6, and 8.

The diagnostic trouble code can be diagnosed when the ignition is on.

Substitute Value

  1. Fuel trim switched off.
  2. Front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) preheating switched off.

Possible Source

  1. Short-circuit to supply in the power cable.
  2. Damaged front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).

Engine Control Module (ECM) checks if the rear heated oxygen sensor's preheating circuit (bank 2) is short-circuited to voltage, there is an open circuit or if the resistance in the heating resistor is incorrect.

The engine cylinders are counted from the cylinder furthest away from the flywheel.

  1. Bank 1 (cylinder row nearest the front): cylinders 1, 3, 5 and 7.
  2. Bank 2 (cylinder row furthest to the rear, nearest the passenger compartment): cylinders 2, 4, 6, and 8.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the engine control module (ECM) registers any of these.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed at ignition on and if the battery voltage is in the range 11-16 V.

Condition

Engine control module (ECM) measures the ambient temperature using an outside temperature sensor. The sensor is located in the left external rear-view mirror. The control module checks the direct voltage from the sensor.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control module detects that

  1. The direct voltage is higher than 4.951 V.
  2. Incorrect value lasts longer than 9 seconds.
  3. Incorrect value lasts for 2 or more subsequent driving cycles.

The control module's test for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) starts in the event of

  1. Ignition switch position II.

Note. The control module can only detect the fault once the test has been started and the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored when the conditions are met.

The diagnostic trouble code is generated if the control module registers that the value from the outside temperature sensor deviates too much from the value of the intake temperature after the engine has cooled at least 8 hours since running at operating temperature.

The diagnostic trouble code can be diagnosed at ignition on after the engine temperature has dropped by at least 55 °C from fully warm engine (higher than 70 °C).

  1. The value is set to the constant 20 °C.

  1. Contact resistance in connector.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control module detects that

  1. The direct voltage is higher than 3.8 V.
  2. Incorrect value lasts longer than 5 seconds.
  3. Incorrect value lasts for 2 or more subsequent driving cycles.

The control module's test for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) starts in the event of

  1. Engine running for at least 2 minutes.

Note. The control module can only detect the fault once the test has been started and the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored when the conditions are met.

Condition

Engine Control Module (ECM) checks the front heated oxygen sensor's signal (bank 1).

The Engine control module (ECM) actively regulates between rich and lean fuel / air mixture and registers how well the front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) signal follows these changes.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the engine control module (ECM) registers that the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) is not activated or is activated too slowly.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed with the engine at operating temperature, approximately 20 minutes after the engine has first been started if the vehicle is driven (normal road load) at 70-90 km/h for 40-50 seconds.
