  3. Start the engine.
  4. Read off the battery voltage.
  5. Load the battery by switching on several power consumers with a high power consumption, for example, the blower, main beam, etc. Read off the battery voltage using the VCT2000 (or appropriate scan tool). Check that the battery voltage is correct, battery voltage shall be approx. 13-14 V. Test at different engine speeds.

CHECKING THE STATUS

  1. Ignition on, wait for at least 15 seconds to perform the diagnosis. Read the diagnostic status and fault status for the diagnostic trouble code by selecting the diagnostic trouble code in the list. Check if the malfunction is permanent or intermittent by reading off the diagnostic trouble code's status when the diagnostic status is "Implemented". If the trouble status is "Malfunction found", this indicates that the malfunction is permanent. If the trouble status is "No malfunction found", this indicates that the malfunction is intermittent and not active right now. NOTE: Trouble status cannot go from "Malfunction found" to "No malfunction found" in the same operating cycle.
  1. Continue Refer to «CHECKING THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)»(ref-476784-S33059787922012060500000)

HINT: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

  1. Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
  2. Start and warm up the engine. Read off the fuel pump's load (signal from engine control module (ECM) to fuel pump module). Check that the signal is approx. 50 % (±10 %) for idling, warm engine.

Is the signal reasonable?

  1. YES VERIFIED: Troubleshooting has been completed.
  2. NO Refer to «INFORMATION»(ref-476784-S40060613802012060500000)

REPLACING THE COMPONENT

The engine control module (ECM) has registered an internal fault.

If the fault is intermittent, it has been registered previously but no longer remains. Intermittent faults can be due to disruption when the engine control module (ECM) started or can be another type of fault that may recur at different instances. The fault is assessed on a case by case basis. If the fault recurs, replace the engine control module (ECM).

In the event of a permanent fault, replace the engine control module (ECM).

Remedy as necessary.

INFORMATION

No fault-tracing has been developed for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for this fault is first stored in the Transmission control module (TCM), then in the Engine control module (ECM). This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can first be erased when the root fault has been remedied and the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for the root fault has been erased.

For further information on this diagnostic trouble code, see Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information.

  1. Start the engine and let it idle for approx. 3-5 minutes to perform the diagnosis. Check if the malfunction is permanent or intermittent by reading off the diagnostic trouble code's status when the diagnostic status is "Implemented". CHECKING COMPONENTS

CAUTIONDo not apply rust solvent spray or grease to the heated oxygen sensor's (HO2S) connector.

Check the rear heated oxygen sensor connector (bank 1). Check for contact resistance and oxidation.

Check the signal cable between engine control module (ECM) and rear heated oxygen sensor for contact resistance and oxidation in the connections, open circuit and short-circuit to ground.

If the above troubleshooting does not solve the problem, try a new heated oxygen sensor.

Remedy as necessary.

No fault-tracing has been developed for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC). The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for this fault is stored first in the brake control module (BCM), then in the engine control module (ECM). This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) cannot be erased before the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) in the brake control module (BCM) has been remedied and erased.

Check relevant connectors for contact resistance and corrosion.

Check the exhaust system for air leakage.

HINT: Both a damaged front and/or a damaged rear heated oxygen sensor may be the cause of the stored diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

HINT: Check other stored DTCs to draw relevant conclusions about which heat oxygen sensor(s) should be replaced, this is to avoid incorrect replacement of components.

Remedy as necessary.
