CHECKING THE COMPONENT

  1. Slacken off the EVAP canister purge valve
  2. Connect a vacuum pump to the EVAP canister purge valve terminal (B). Pump a vacuum. Check that there is no leakage through the EVAP canister purge valve by listening to and checking via the pump gauge that the pressure is stable
  3. Connect the EVAP canister purge valve connector
  4. Ignition on
  5. Activate the evaporative emission system (EVAP) valve. When the EVAP canister purge valve is activated, the valve opens and clicks. Check on the pump gauge that the vacuum drops (the pressure evens out) when the EVAP valve opens. If the function is OK, there must be no leakage when the EVAP canister purge valve is closed (stable pressure on the pump gauge) and the vacuum must drop when the EVAP canister purge valve opens (the pressure evens out). The EVAP canister purge valve is defective if the function is faulty. If the function of the EVAP canister purge valve is OK, check: The hose and hose terminals between the EVAP canister purge valve and the intake manifold. Check for leakage and blockages The hose and hose terminals between the EVAP canister and the EVAP canister purge valve. Check for leakage and blockages. Remedy as necessary.   1. Ignition on. Use the VCT2000 (or appropriate scan tool) to read out and check the software version in the Engine control module (ECM). NOTE: More instructions follow together with the read out.

Has the latest software been downloaded to the control module?

  1. Activate the test using the VCT2000.
  2. Read off initial parameters and check them according to start conditions for performing the test.
  3. Check that the test has started. Parameters run status shall go to "In progress" and the test phase shall go to "Reference". NOTE: If the test does not start, check that the start conditions are fulfilled. When the reference phase is finished, check of the tank system starts. The pressure in the tank starts to increase, see graph. Within 15 minutes the Engine control module makes a decision as to whether there is leakage in the tank system or not. The test is finished.
  4. Check parameters for test result and follow relevant instructions below. NOTE: In the event of a the results from the estimated leakage must be entered in NOTE: Estimated leakage shall be used to get an idea of the proximity to the diagnostic trouble code limit. Check the fault status for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) when the diagnostic is "Complete". If the function is correct, the fault status must be "No fault found" when the diagnostic is complete.
