- Ignition on. Activate the read off for the signals for the brake pedal position sensor and stop lamp switch. Check that the value at the brake pedal position sensor is approximately 7% when the brake pedal is unaffected and approximately 80% when the pedal is fully depressed with the engine running. Check also that the stop lamp switch changes status. When the brake pedal is unaffected, "OFF" must be displayed. If the brake pedal is depressed slightly, the status must change to "ON". NOTE: If an incorrect value is obtained from the brake pedal position sensor, the brake control module (BCM) must initially be searched for the fault cause. The fault is intermittent at present if the values and the status from the brake pedal position sensor and the stop lamp switch correspond as above.

- Ignition on. Check the power supply to the stop lamp switch. Take readings between stop lamp switch terminal #2 (cable harness side) and the ground terminal. The power supply must be approximately 12 V. If there is no power supply: Check the power supply circuit for stop lamp switch terminal #2 (cable harness side). Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a blown fuse in the circuit. Remedy as necessary. - Check that the stop lamp switch is correctly installed. Check the resistance of the stop lamp switch with the switch pressed in and with the switch released. Take readings between terminals #1 and #2 (component side) on the stop lamp switch. HINT: The stop lamp switch must be closed when the brake pedal is depressed. The resistance of the stop lamp switch must be infinite when the brake pedal is unaffected. Check the stop lamp switch and engine control module (ECM) connectors. Check for contact resistance. Check for oxidation. Check the cable between stop lamp switch terminal #1 (cable harness side) and engine control module (ECM) terminal #B41 (#C41). Check for loose connections. DESCRIPTION OF BEHAVIORS, ECM-9A0A
The purpose of this information is to provide a brief description of the types of negative behavior that may be observed in the car when diagnostic trouble code ECM-9A0A is stored in the engine control module. Scope, frequency and magnitude of a behavior depend on a large number of parameters and circumstances, which can result in variations from case to case.
HINT: Combinations of behaviors can occur.
Behavior 1
- Cruise control is active. -the lamp lights, but the buttons, and do not work.
Behavior 2
- The cruise control does not function at all. The lamp goes out.
Behavior 3
- When the brake and accelerator pedal are depressed simultaneously, the function of the accelerator pedal is ignored.
Behavior 4
- Runs slightly jerkily.
Behavior 5
- Jerky operation. Uneven idle.
Behavior 6
- The relationship between the accelerator pedal and the throttle has the same characteristics as a system controlled by a mechanical cable. Uneven idle.
Behavior 7
- Poor performance. The engine dies.
Behavior 8
- The behavior means that the Engine control module (ECM) does not permit autostart. Occurs during the following fault causes: Due to the information from the Brake control module (BCM), the Engine control module (ECM) does not permit autostart. Fault in the clutch pedal sensor and/or clutch pedal switch. Incorrect or missing speed signal from the Brake control module (BCM) / transmission control module (TCM) Fault in supply to starter relay. Missing signal from the gear position sensor (P/N indication).
Behavior 9
- The behavior means that the Engine control module (ECM) switches off the fuel pump. Occurs during the following fault causes: If the starter motor relay is connected but the Engine control module (ECM) has permitted start. The Engine control module (ECM) receives speed signals from the Brake control module (BCM) within one second after start attempt.

Behavior 1
- Poor accelerator pedal (AP) response. Limited maximum speed of the car. HINT: However, a fully depressed accelerator pedal (AP) produces "normal" response without reduced maximum speed. HINT: This behavior only occurs after the car has been driven for more than 140 hours after the warning message first appeared in the display.
Behavior 2
- Limited maximum speed of the car.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored when the communication between the central electronic module (CEM) and the relevant control module has been interrupted. There can be a number of causes for interruptions in the communication
- Faulty signal configuration in the control module that stored the diagnostic trouble code (DTC). The fault can be due to a customer or workshop replacing a control module without downloading new software for the replacement
- Intermittent open-circuit in one or both CAN cables in part of the network
- Intermittent short-circuits between the CAN cables
- Intermittent short-circuits between one of the CAN cables and ground or supply voltage
- Internal fault in the control module that stored the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
The fault can also be due to faulty software in a control module, a hardware problem in the CAN network (faulty cables) or a fault in a control module.
Note. If there is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for a communication fault in a control module, check whether diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been stored in the central electronic module (CEM). The central electronic module (CEM) monitors the voltage level in the CAN cables and is the only control module that can directly store a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for a short-circuit in one of the cables for ground or supply voltage. Do not replace the central electronic module (CEM) in the event of a CAN fault unless fault-tracing has indicated that the central electronic module (CEM) has an internal fault.
Corrective actions
- If this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is the only communication diagnostic trouble code (DTC) stored in one of the control modules in the high speed network, try to remedy the fault by downloading new software for the control module that stored the diagnostic trouble code (DTC)
- Check the cables in the CAN network according to the following fault-tracing
- The control module should be replaced as a last resort.
