The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control capacity of the engine control module (ECM) for fuel pressure reaches the highest or lowest value and the desired fuel pressure (target value) is not achieved.

The engine control module (ECM) assumes two initial values for probe voltage, 0 V and 5 V. If probe preheating is active and if at least one fuel shut-off has been made, the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) maximum value must have exceeded 0.3 V and the minimum value must have been below 1.0 V. The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored and the engine control module (ECM) interprets it as a fault if these limit values are not achieved after approximately 5 minutes and both the accumulated and actual heated oxygen sensor preheating have reached certain limit values.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed when the engine is running.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the engine control module (ECM) registers that these parameters are not reached after approximately 5 minutes and the accumulated or actual probe preheating has reached its parameter.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed approximately 5 minutes after starting (if probe preheating is active and at least one fuel shut-off has been made).

Condition

Engine control module (ECM) checks the function of the middle oxygen sensor by monitoring how fast the sensor reacts when the system switches from rich to lean in case of a fuel shut-off.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control module detects that

  1. Voltage across middle heated oxygen sensor drops too slowly.
  2. Slow voltage-drop in case of more than 10 subsequent fuel shut-offs during the same driving cycle.

The control module's test for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) starts in the event of

  1. Hot engine.
  2. Vehicle speed 70-90 km/h.
  3. Fuel shut-off.

Note. The control module can only detect the fault once the test has been started and the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored when the conditions are met.

It also checks for an open-circuit or whether the heating resistor is faulty. The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if is stored if the engine control module (ECM) registers any of these.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed at ignition on and if the battery voltage is in the range 11-16 V.

Condition

During the engine warm up phase the way the engine temperature should increase is calculated. Factors such as engine load and the start temperature are taken into account. This test takes place during the engine warm-up phase (under "normal operation") and continues until the engine temperature has reached 84 °C. For the test to start, the starting temperature of the engine must be below 35 °C, the outside temperature must be between -7 and +35 °C and at least 15 minutes must have passed since the engine was last run.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the calculated increase in temperature does not correspond to the actual increase (measured by the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor).

HINT: This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can also be caused by faults that store diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for outside temperature sensors.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is diagnosed once per operating cycle when the ignition is switched on, but only when the engine temperature has dropped by approximately 60 °C from operating temperature (>70 °C) since the previous operating cycle.

The engine control module (ECM) checks that 5 camshaft flanks are detected during 2 crankshaft revolutions (i. e. that all camshaft flanks are detected on one camshaft revolution). The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if fewer camshaft flanks are detected.

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed when the engine speed (RPM) is higher than a set value and refers to the camshaft position (CMP) sensor for the intake camshaft.

  1. Intermittent open-circuit in wiring or splices
