CHECKING THE WIRING

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if there is no communication between the engine control module (ECM) and the alternator control module (ACM). This may be due to a fault in the signal cable between the control modules or a damaged communication device in one or both of the control modules.

HINT: This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be stored if a generator (GEN) with an alternator control module (ACM) (charge regulator) not intended for LIN communication is installed.

Check the connector on the alternator control module (ACM). Check for contact resistance and oxidation.

Check the signal cable. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Take readings between

  1. Engine control module (ECM) terminal #A21 (#A21) and alternator control module (ACM) terminal #B1.

Remedy as necessary.

CHECKING THE COMPONENTS AND WIRING

Note. If diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been stored for a component that is supplied with 5 volt in the engine control module (ECM), these diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) must be fault-traced first.

Check the power supply cables between engine control module (ECM) terminals #A13 (#A13), #A14 (#A14), #A15 (#A15), #A16 (#A16), A17 (#A17), #A39 (#A39) and #B31 (#C31). Check the components connected to these power supply cables. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Remedy as necessary.

HINT: This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can also be caused by an internal fault in the engine control module (ECM).

CHECKING THE COMPONENT AND WIRING

  1. Check the condition of the battery and the function of the charging system. Check the voltage feed to the Engine control module (ECM). Check between Engine control module (ECM) #B16 (#C16) and the battery's plus terminal for contact resistance or oxidation in connections. Check the voltage feed to the start relay. Check between the start relay and the battery's plus terminal for contact resistance or oxidation in connections. Check the power supply to the starter motor. Check between the starter motor and the battery's plus terminal for contact resistance or oxidation in connections. Check between the starter motor and start relay for contact resistance or oxidation in connections. Remedy as necessary.   2. Check that the stop lamp switch is correctly installed. Check the resistance of the stop lamp switch with the switch pressed in and with the switch released. Take readings between terminals #1 and #2 (component side) on the stop lamp switch. HINT: The stop lamp switch must be closed when the brake pedal is depressed. The resistance of the stop lamp switch must be infinite when the brake pedal is unaffected. Check the stop lamp switch and engine control module (ECM) connectors. Check for contact resistance. Check for oxidation. Check the cable. Check for loose connections. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage. Take readings between: Engine Control Module (ECM) #B30 (#C30) and brake light switch #1. Remedy as necessary. CHECKING THE COMPONENT, WIRING AND CONNECTORS

Check the clutch pedal switch's cable and function by measuring between Engine control module (ECM) #B13 (#C13) and ground (chassis connection).
