CHECKING THE COMPONENT AND WIRING

Check the fuse for the circuit.

Check the camshaft reset valve connector. Check for contact resistance. Check for oxidation.

Check the signal cable between engine control module (ECM) terminal #A72 (#B12) and camshaft reset valve terminal #2. Check for an open-circuit.

Check the power cable between camshaft reset valve terminal #1 and the system relay. Check for an open-circuit.

HINT: With the ignition switched on, the reading must be approximately 12 V between camshaft reset valve terminal #1 and ground.

Remedy as necessary.

Check between engine cooling fan (FC) connector terminal #2 and ground. Check for an open-circuit.

Check the power cable between the fuse for the engine cooling fan (FC) module and engine cooling fan (FC) module connector terminal #1. Check for an open-circuit.

HINT: The voltage must be approximately 12 V between engine cooling fan (FC) module connector (wiring side) terminals #1 and #2.

Check between engine cooling fan (FC) connector terminal #2 and ground. Check for an open-circuit.

Check the power cable between the fuse for the engine cooling fan (FC) module and engine cooling fan (FC) module connector terminal #1. Check for an open-circuit.

HINT: The voltage must be approximately 12 V between engine cooling fan (FC) module connector (wiring side) terminals #1 and #2.

Remedy as necessary.

CHECKING THE WIRING

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if there is no communication between the engine control module (ECM) and the alternator control module (ACM). This may be due to a fault in the signal cable between the control modules or a damaged communication device in one or both of the control modules.

HINT: This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be stored if a generator (GEN) with an alternator control module (ACM) (charge regulator) not intended for LIN communication is installed.

Check the connector on the alternator control module (ACM). Check for contact resistance and oxidation.

Check the signal cable. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Take readings between

  1. Engine control module (ECM) #A46 (#A46) and alternator control module (ACM) #B2.

HINT: Another test to check the alternator's function is to perform Quicktest of alternator function using VIDA or appropriate scan tool.
