CHECKING THE COMPONENT AND WIRING
- Start the engine and run it to normal operating temperature. Read off the fuel pump (FP) load (signal from the engine control module (ECM) to the fuel pump (FP) control module). Check that the signal is approximately 50% (±10 %) with the engine idling at operating temperature. Check the cable between engine control module (ECM) terminal #B20 (#C20) and fuel pump (FP) module terminal #1. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for an open-circuit. Remedy as necessary. Take readings between: Engine Control Module (ECM) #A42 (#A42) and engine temperature sensor #1. HINT: With the ignition on and engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector disconnected the voltage between terminal #1 and ground terminal should be approximately 5 V. Check the ground lead.
