Balancer Unit - Omega-B, Sintra
For increased comfort, the Omega-B and Sintra feature a balancer unit consisting of two balancer shafts which rotate in opposite directions at twice the speed of the crankshaft. They are driven via a simplex chain from a shrink-fit sprocket on the crankshaft. A hydraulic chain tensioner ensures that the chain is correctly aligned and tensioned.
The balancer unit is installed on the 2nd and 3rd crankshaft bearings. The oil supply is also provided via these bearings, by two oil bore holes in the two lower crankshaft bearing shells.
The balancer shafts reduce secondary forces and thus minimise engine vibration and noise.
