How to Replace the Con-Rod Opel Calibra I

Con-rod, Replace

Note:

Removal of the piston pin is not permitted. If the piston, piston pin or con-rod is defective, all of the above parts must be replaced.

Remove piston with con-rod (1) - see operation

"Piston with Con-rod, Remove and Install".

Mark con-rod small end and upper part of con-rod shaft with commercially available thermocolour pencil.

When the required assembly temperature is reached, the green colour turns black.

The coloured line must not change colours over the entire length, but only to the start of the con-rod shaft.

Heat upper small end of new con-rod with heating plate.

Assembly temperature:

280 °C to max. 320 °C//536 °C to max. 608 °F.

Lay small end surface plane on hotplate and reduce heat conduction with incombustible firebrick.

Installation position:

Beads (arrows) on con-rod point to flattened parts (arrow) of piston pin boss.

Note:

Jammed piston pins cannot be moved later.

Perform assembly quickly.

Con-rod (1), piston pin, piston.

Drive new piston pin to stop in piston with guide drift.

Install piston with con-rod (1) - see operation
