How to Check the Timing Opel Calibra I

Special Service Tools required:

1 KM-800-20 - test gauge for camshaft pulleys

2 KM-800-10 - fixing TDC point

1 Camshaft pulley "1" for cylinder 1-3-5 (exhaust)

2 Camshaft pulley "2" for cylinder 1-3-5 (intake)

3 Camshaft pulley "3" for cylinder 2-4-6 (intake)

4 Camshaft pulley "4" for cylinder 2-4-6 (exhaust)

5 Toothed belt drive gear

Remove front toothed belt cover - see operation

"Front Toothed Belt Cover, Remove and Install".

Remove torsional vibration damper (1) - counterhold at fastening bolt toothed belt drive gear.

At fastening bolt of toothed belt drive gear, turn crankshaft in engine rotational direction to just in front of TDC mark (3).

Notches on camshaft pulleys (1) are just in front of marks (2) on rear toothed belt cover.

Bolt KM-800-10 (1) with knurled bolt (2) to toothed belt drive gear.

Turn crankshaft further in engine rotational direction until lever (5) lies on coolant pump flange.

Press movable lever (3) from KM-800-10 onto flattened part of coolant pump flange and tighten knurled bolt (4) loosely.

Note:

The crankshaft is now locked in the TDC position.

Marks (2) on camshaft pulleys align with notches (1) on rear toothed belt cover.

In addition, check that the allocation of camshaft pulleys to camshafts is correct. The numbers for the camshaft pulleys are immediately beside the notch marks.

I Camshaft pulleys for cylinders 1-3-5

II Camshaft pulleys for cylinders 2-4-6

Set Test Gauge KM-800-20 (3) on camshaft pulleys "3" and "4".

Marks (1) on camshaft pulleys must align exactly with marks (2) on Test Gauge KM-800-20.

If the marks do not align with Test Gauge

KM-800-20, the timing must be adjusted.

Set Test Gauge KM-800-20 (3) on camshaft pulley "1" and "2".

Marks (1) on camshaft pulleys must align exactly with marks (2) on Test Gauge KM-800-20.

If the marks do not align with Test Gauge

KM-800-20, the timing must be adjusted.
