- If using Plastigage to check rod bearing oil clearance, DO NOT fully tighten bearing cap bolts. Instead, tighten bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 N.m). see scheme 86 Lubricate threads and contact surface.
- If rod bearing oil clearance is not within specification, replace rod bearings. See «CRANKSHAFT, MAIN & CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS»(ref-147486-S04651844112002091600000) table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
- Replace rod bearing cap bolts after first use. Tighten bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-147486-S30794586192002091600000).

- Main bearing cap No. 1 is located at front (timing belt) end of engine. Main bearing cap No. 4 is located at rear of engine. see scheme 104
