Note. This DTC is generated by coked, or otherwise defective spark plugs. This is generally caused by a fuel-air mixture problem, and will probably accompany other DTCs.

  1. Connect TECH 2 scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Check for presence of following codes: P0300-P0306, P1300-P1306, P1390-P1396. If present, go to appropriate DTC test procedure (lowest No. DTC first). If none are present, go to next step.
  2. Check for presence of following codes: P0171, P0172, P1171, P1172, P1181, P1182, P1641 or P1676. If any DTCs are present, go to appropriate test procedure (lowest No. DTC first). If none are present, change spark plugs, then go to next step.
  3. Use scan tool to select READ VALUE: CAMSHAFT POSITION SYNCHRONIZED. If displayed value switches to ON within 10 seconds after starting engine, use scan tool to clear DTCs. If value is not as specified, substitute known good ECM and retest system. See «ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)»(ref-2997-S17585372472000041700000) under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article.
