DTC P1392 & P1397: VARIABLE VALVE TIMING SOLENOID LOW INPUT Jaguar XJR II

  1. Check fuse F12 and EMS control relay located in fuse box at right rear of engine compartment. Repair or replace as necessary. If fuse and relay are okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid 2-pin harness connector for bank "A" (DTC P1392) or bank "B" (DTC P1397), located on front of cylinder head. Measure resistance between VVT solenoid terminals. If resistance is 5-20 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 5-20 ohms, replace VVT solenoid and retest system.
  3. Disconnect ECM harness connector EM15. For DTC P1392, check continuity of Red/Yellow wire between ECM harness connector EM15 terminal No. 9 and bank "A" VVT solenoid harness connector. For DTC P1397, check continuity of Red/Green wire between ECM harness connector EM15 terminal No. 8 and bank "B" VVT solenoid harness connector. (Схема №3) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit and retest system.
  4. Check continuity of between ECM harness connector EM14 terminal No. 9 (Black wire) and ground point G121 (on XJ Series), or G105 (on XK8). See appropriate diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. (Схема №3) If continuity exists, system is okay. If continuity does not exist, repair open ground circuit and retest system.
