IMPORTANTKeep all of the valve train parts in order. Reinstall the valve train parts in their original locations and with the same mating surfaces as when removed.

  1. Remove the rocker arms, pushrods, and the pedestals. Refer to «VALVE ROCKER ARM AND PUSH ROD REPLACEMENT»(ref-187842-S03883063092005090800000) .
  2. Remove the lower intake manifold and gaskets. Refer to «INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT-LOWER (L36)»(ref-187842-S30248086842005090800000) or «INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT-LOWER (L67)»(ref-187842-S23751398682005090800000) .
  3. Remove the valve guide retainer bolts.
  4. Remove the valve guide retainer.
  5. Remove the valve lifter guides.
  6. Remove the valve lifters.
  7. Clean and inspect the valve lifters and guides. Refer to «VALVE LIFTERS AND GUIDES CLEANING AND INSPECTION»(ref-187842-S00188497322005090800000) .

  1. Dip the valve lifters in prelube GM P/N 12345501 (Canadian P/N 992704) or the equivalent.
  2. Install the valve lifters.
  3. Install the valve lifter guides.
  4. Install the valve guide retainer. NOTE: Refer to «FASTENER NOTICE»(ref-175132-S17785009232005041500000) .
  5. Install the valve guide retainer bolts. Tighten Tighten the valve guide retainer bolts to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
  6. Install the lower intake manifold and gaskets. Refer to «INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT-LOWER (L36)»(ref-187842-S30248086842005090800000) or «INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT-LOWER (L67)»(ref-187842-S23751398682005090800000) .
  7. Install the valve rocker arms, pushrods, and the pedestals. Refer to «VALVE ROCKER ARM AND PUSH ROD REPLACEMENT»(ref-187842-S03883063092005090800000) .
