- Remove the right engine mount bracket. Refer to «ENGINE MOUNT BRACKET REPLACEMENT-RIGHT»(ref-187842-S07820206822005090800000) .
- Remove the drive belt tensioner assembly. Refer to «DRIVE BELT TENSIONER REPLACEMENT»(ref-187842-S23933905412005090800000) .
- Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to «CRANKSHAFT BALANCER REPLACEMENT»(ref-187842-S17293796522005090800000) .
- Remove the crankshaft sensor shield.
- Remove the crankshaft sensor.
- Remove the oil pan to engine front cover bolts.
- Remove the engine front cover attaching bolts.
- Remove the engine front cover.
- Inspect the timing chain for overall in and out movement. Movement should not exceed 25 mm (1 in).
- Inspect the timing sprockets for wear.
- Clean the gasket mating surfaces at the cylinder block.
- If the oil pan gasket is excessively swollen, the oil pan must be removed and the gasket replaced.
- Clean and inspect the engine front cover. Refer to «ENGINE FRONT COVER CLEANING AND INSPECTION»(ref-187842-S38412247042005090800000) .

- Install the engine front cover gasket.
- Install the engine front cover.
- Apply sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the bolt threads. NOTE: Refer to «FASTENER NOTICE»(ref-175132-S17785009232005041500000) .
- Install the engine front cover attaching bolts. Tighten Tighten the engine front cover bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Use the J 36660-A in order to rotate the bolts an additional 40 degrees.
- Install the oil pan to the engine front cover bolts. Tighten Tighten the oil pan bolts to 14 N.m (125 lb in).
- Install the drive belt tensioner assembly. Refer to «DRIVE BELT TENSIONER REPLACEMENT»(ref-187842-S23933905412005090800000) . IMPORTANT: Do not adjust the crankshaft sensor.
- Install the crankshaft sensor.
- Install the crankshaft sensor shield.
- Install the crankshaft balancer and bolt. Refer to «CRANKSHAFT BALANCER REPLACEMENT»(ref-187842-S17293796522005090800000) .
- Install the right engine mount bracket. Refer to «ENGINE MOUNT BRACKET REPLACEMENT-RIGHT»(ref-187842-S07820206822005090800000) .

- Remove the engine front cover. Refer to «ENGINE FRONT COVER REPLACEMENT»(ref-187842-S10056117112005090800000) .
- Remove the oil filter adapter.
- Remove the pressure regulator valve and the spring. Refer to «OIL FILTER ADAPTER AND BYPASS VALVE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT»(ref-187842-S18393693062005090800000) .
- Remove the oil pump cover attaching screws.
- Remove the oil pump cover.
- Remove the oil pump gear set.
- Clean and inspect the oil pump gear set and housing. Refer to «OIL PUMP CLEANING AND INSPECTION»(ref-187842-S36626064192005090800000) .
Scheme 150
- Lubricate the oil pump gears with petroleum jelly.
- Install the oil pump gear set.
- Pack the oil pump gears with petroleum jelly.
- Install the oil pump cover. NOTE: Refer to «FASTENER NOTICE»(ref-175132-S17785009232005041500000) .
- Install the oil pump cover screws. Tighten Tighten the oil pump cover screws to 11 N.m (98 lb in).
- Install the oil filter adapter with a new gasket. Install the pressure regulator valve and the spring. Refer to «OIL FILTER ADAPTER AND BYPASS VALVE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT»(ref-187842-S18393693062005090800000) .
- Install the engine front cover. Refer to «ENGINE FRONT COVER REPLACEMENT»(ref-187842-S10056117112005090800000) . NOTE: Do not run the engine until the oil pressure is tested. Running the engine without measurable oil pressure will cause extensive damage. NOTE: Stop the engine and remove the oil pan if the oil pressure does not build up immediately. Check the oil pump pipe and the screen for a clogged screen, damaged pipe, or a damaged gasket. Running the engine without measurable oil pressure will cause extensive damage.
- Inspect the oil pressure.
- Inspect for the proper fluid levels.
- Inspect for leaks.
