Cylinder Head Replacement - Right Buick Century VI

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE»(ref-189331-S23727654502005090900000) in General Information.
2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to «DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM»(ref-189350-S27553132012005090900000) in Engine Cooling.
3. Drain the engine oil. Refer to «ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT»(ref-189348-S31856086792005090900000) .
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to «INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - LOWER»(ref-189348-S02836602572005090900000) .
6. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to «VALVE ROCKER ARM AND PUSH ROD REPLACEMENT»(ref-189348-S25979986922005090900000) .
7. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to EXHAUST CROSSOVER PIPE REPLACEMENT (3.1L) .
8. Remove the right spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to «SPARK PLUGS»(ref-159248-S28146450102003112000000) in Removal & Installation.
9. Remove the fuel line bracket bolts/studs and the bracket.
10. Remove the generator. Refer to GENERATOR in Generators & Regulators.
11. Remove the right spark plugs. Refer to «SPARK PLUGS»(ref-159248-S28146450102003112000000) in Removal & Installation.
12. Remove the right exhaust manifold. Refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - RIGHT (3.1L) in Engine Exhaust.
13. Remove the right cylinder head bolts and discard the bolts.
14. Remove the right cylinder head.
15. Remove the right cylinder head gasket.
16. Clean and inspect the right cylinder head and the gasket mating surfaces. Refer to «CYLINDER HEAD CLEANING AND INSPECTION»(ref-189348-S03883003852005090900000) .

1. Install a new right cylinder head gasket.
2. Install the right cylinder head over the locator pins and the gasket. NOTE: Refer to «FASTENER NOTICE»(ref-175132-S17785009232005041500000) in Cautions and Notices.
3. Install the new cylinder head bolts Tighten 3.1. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 60 N.m (44 lb ft). 3.2. Use the J 36660-A to rotate the cylinder head bolts in sequence an additional 95 degrees.
4. Install the right exhaust manifold. Refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - RIGHT (3.1L) .
5. Install the right spark plugs. Refer to «SPARK PLUGS»(ref-159248-S28146450102003112000000) in Removal & Installation.
6. Install the generator. Refer to GENERATOR in Generators & Regulators.
7. Install the fuel line bracket.
8. Install the fuel line bracket bolt and stud. Tighten Tighten the bolt and stud to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
9. Install the right spark plug wires to the spark plugs. Refer to «SPARK PLUGS»(ref-159248-S28146450102003112000000) in Removal & Installation.
10. Install the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to EXHAUST CROSSOVER PIPE REPLACEMENT (3.1L) .
11. Install the pushrods and valve rocker arms. Refer to «VALVE ROCKER ARM AND PUSH ROD REPLACEMENT»(ref-189348-S25979986922005090900000) .
12. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to «INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT - LOWER»(ref-189348-S02836602572005090900000) .
13. Fill the crankcase with engine oil. Refer to «ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT»(ref-189348-S31856086792005090900000) .
14. Fill the cooling system. Refer to «DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM»(ref-189350-S27553132012005090900000) in Engine Cooling.
15. Inspect for leaks.
