INSTALLATION

  1. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY Install a new gasket to the intake manifold. Install the fuel tube bracket with the bolt. Torque: 7.5 N*m (76 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf) Install the throttle body assembly with the 4 bolts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the 2 water by-pass hoses to the throttle body. Connect the throttle body assembly connector. Connect the fuel tube to the clamp.
  2. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY Connect the air-cleaner cap sub-assembly to the throttle body assembly and lock the hose band. Install the air cleaner cap sub-assembly with the 2 bolts. Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) Connect the 2 vacuum hoses to the air cleaner cap sub-assembly. Connect the 2 vacuum hoses to the 2 hose clamps. Connect the hose to the air cleaner cap sub-assembly and the hose clamp. Connect the ventilation hose to the cylinder head cover. Connect the hose to the hose clamp. Connect the mass air flow meter connector.
  3. INSTALL NO. 1 VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 1»(ref-422448-S16158231412011092600000)
  4. ADD ENGINE COOLANT . Refer to «REPLACEMENT - Step 3»(ref-422446-S32914012112011092600000)
  5. INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK . Refer to «ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION - Step 1»(ref-422475-S18132853792011092600000)
  6. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 89»(ref-422438-S12734753612011092600000)

  11. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER
  12. PERFORM INITIALIZATION NOTE: Perform the following procedure after replacing the ECM, throttle body assembly or any throttle body components. The following procedure should also be performed if the throttle body is cleaned. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Wait at least 60 seconds and reconnect the cable. Turn the ignition switch to ON without operating the accelerator pedal. NOTE: If the accelerator pedal is operated, perform the above steps again. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3 and clear the DTCs, refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-422301-S01463917032011092600000) . Start the engine and check that the MIL is not illuminated. After the engine is warmed up, check that the idle speed is within the specified range when the A/C is switched off. Standard Condition Engine Idle Speed A/C switched off 600 to 700 RPM NOTE: Be sure to perform this step with all accessories off. Make sure that the shift lever is in neutral. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Throttle Sensor Position. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and check that the value is 60% or more. Perform a road test and confirm that there are no abnormalities.

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected, refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-422289-S16028026952011092600000) .

  6. REMOVE ECM Disconnect the 6 ECM connectors. Disconnect the tire pressure warning ECU connector and remove the nut and tire pressure warning ECU. Separate the 2 wire harness clamps. Remove the 2 nuts, bolt and ECM with the ECM bracket. Remove the 4 screws and 2 ECM brackets from the ECM.
  1. INSTALL ECM Install the 2 ECM brackets to the ECM with the 4 screws. Install the ECM with the ECM bracket with the bolt and 2 nuts. Torque: 8.5 N*m (87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf) Install the 2 wire harness clamps. Install the tire pressure warning ECU with the nut and connect the tire pressure warning ECU connector. Torque: 8.5 N*m (87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf) Connect the 6 ECM connectors.
  2. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 23»(ref-422477-S20094097602011092600000)
  3. INSTALL NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 24»(ref-422477-S20094097602011092600000)

  7. PERFORM INITIALIZATION NOTE: If the ECM is replaced, register the ECU communication ID for the immobiliser system, refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-422289-S16028026952011092600000) . The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) must be input into the replacement ECM, refer to «INITIALIZATION»(ref-422289-S16028026952011092600000) . HINT: Initialization cannot be completed by only disconnecting and reconnecting the cable of the negative (-) battery terminal.

  1. INSTALL ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY NOTE: Avoid physical shock to the accelerator pedal assembly. Do not disassemble the accelerator pedal assembly. Install the accelerator pedal assembly with the 2 nuts. Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf) Connect the accelerator pedal assembly connector.

NOTE: Make sure that the O-ring is not cracked or does not jump out of position during installation. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the bolt. Adhesive Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1344, Three Bond 1344 or equivalent. Install the sensor with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) Connect the sensor connector.

  1. INSPECT CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 - 2 Cold 1630 to 2740 ohms Hot 2065 to 3225 ohms HINT: In the table above, the terms "Cold" and "Hot" refer to the temperature of the coils. "Cold" means approximately -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F). "Hot" means approximately 50 to 100°C (122 to 212°F). If the result is not as specified, replace the crankshaft position sensor.
  1. INSTALL CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring of the sensor. NOTE: Make sure that the O-ring is not cracked or does not jump out of position during installation. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the bolt.   1. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR Partially immerse the sensor in water and warm up the water. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 2.32 to 2.59 kohms 1 - 2 80°C (176°F) 0.310 to 0.326 kohms NOTE: When checking the sensor in water, keep the terminals dry. After the check, wipe the sensor dry. If the result is not as specified, replace the engine coolant temperature sensor.

  1. INSTALL KNOCK SENSOR Install the sensor with the bolt so that the sensor is angled as shown in the illustration. Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) NOTE: The acceptable installation angle of the sensor is between 7° upward and 10° downward from the horizontal position. Connect the sensor connector.
  2. INSTALL INTAKE MANIFOLD Install the intake manifold, refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-422463-S33231497512011092600000) .

  1. INSTALL AIR FUEL RATIO SENSOR Using SST, install the air fuel ratio sensor to the exhaust manifold. SST: 09224-00010 without SST Torque: 44 N*m (449 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf) with SST Torque: 40 N*m (408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf) NOTE: The "with SST" torque value is effective when using SST with a fulcrum length of 30 mm (1.18 in.). The "with SST" torque value is effective when using a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 300 mm (11.81 in.), refer to «PRECAUTION»(ref-422289-S41886738162011092600000) . This torque value is effective when SST is parallel to the torque wrench. Connect the air fuel ratio sensor connector.

  1. INSPECT ENGINE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY Inspect the EFI No. 1 fuse. Remove the EFI No. 1 fuse. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance of the fuse. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition EFI No. 1 fuse Always Below 1 ohms Inspect the EFI No. 1 fuse. Remove the EFI No. 1 fuse. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance of the fuse. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition EFI No. 1 fuse Always Below 1 ohms Inspect the ETCS fuse. Remove the ETCS fuse. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance of the fuse. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition ETCS fuse Always Below 1 ohms Inspect EFI relay. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 2E-12 - 2E-7 No battery voltage applied 10 kohms or higher 2E-12 - 2E-7 Battery voltage applied between terminals 2E-10 and 2E-9 Below 1 ohms NOTE: While using the battery for the inspection, do not bring the positive(+) and negative(-) tester probes too close to each other as a short circuit may occur.   1. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY Connect the 4 connectors. Attach the engine room junction block assembly.
  2. INSTALL NO. 1 RELAY BLOCK COVER Install the No. 1 relay block cover.
  3. INSTALL RESERVOIR BRACKET . Refer to «INSTALLATION - Step 61»(ref-422437-S14114071742011092600000)
