Checking and Adjustment Operations

Compression, Check

Engine at operating temperature (oil temperature ≥ 80 �C/176 �F). Use compression recorder with rubber cone and range up to 1750 kPa (17.5 bar).

Detach wiring harness plug (1) from DIS ignition module.

Remove fuel pump relay - installation position behind A-pillar panelling, lower right (2).

Remove oil filler cap and fastening screws (3) and remove ignition cable cover.

Remove all spark plugs.

To prevent damage to the spark plugs from hairline cracks (invisible cracks between ceramic element and metal base), remove spark plugs with KM-194-E (1).

Check compression pressure. Press rubber cone of compression recorder (2) into respective spark plug thread and actuate starter with throttle valve completely open until no pressure increase results.

Minimum engine speed approx. 300 rpm.

Max. permissible pressure difference for individual cylinders (between smallest and largest value) 100 kPa (1 bar).

Install spark plugs with KM-194-E (2) and MKM-611 (1).

Install spark plugs in cylinder head - 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft.

Connect spark plug connectors to spark plugs and wiring harness plug to DIS ignition module.

Fit spark plug wire cover (3) to upper part of intake manifold - tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft. Fit oil filler cap.

Install fuel pump relay. Attach A-pillar panelling.
