12ENGINE SPEED
Engine running at idle speed, at

operating temperature

For vehicles with automatic

transmission:

Apply handbrake!

Selector lever to P/N

For vehicles with manual transmission:

720 to 800 rpm

720 to 800 rpm

42B8/ B9

The "ENGINE SPEED " is dependent on various input signals and the programming of the control module.

If the actual value is not within the nominal value, the other sensor signals must first be checked.

Troubleshooting:

Nominal Value:
Cause of Fault:

(If nominal value is not reached)

· Check reference sensor signal P35:

· Ignition OFF

Disconnect DIS module connector E-22

Disconnect REF Sensor connector E-27

· Turn tooth lock washer so that REF sensor is not above a groove.

· Measure resistance with multimeter

from: Wiring harness connector (female) E-22, ter. A

to: Wiring harness connector (female) E-22, ter. C· REF Sensor defective.

or

· Line interrupted.

from: P35, ter. 1

to: DIS module connector E-22, ter. A

or

· Line interrupted.

from: P35, ter. 2

to: DIS module connector E-22, ter. C

980 to 1250 W*

· Measure resistance with multimeter

from: DIS module connector (female) E-22, ter. C

to: Ground

Greater than 100 kW· Short circuit in wiring harness

from: DIS module connector E-22, ter. C

to: Ground

* If the measured value differs significantly from the prescribed value, the engine should be turned on by turning the crankshaft (appr. 300). The measurement should then be repeated.

· Measure resistance with

multimeter

from: DIS module connector (female) E-22, ter. A

to: Ground

Greater than 100 kW· Short circuit in wiring harness

from: DIS module connector E-22, ter. A

to: Ground

· Other possible trouble causes:

· Short circuit in wiring harness

from: DIS module connector E-22, ter. A or C

to: DIS module connector E-22, ter. B

· REF Sensor defective.

· Burr on the segment disk

· Distance from REF sensor to segment disk incorrect. See service documentation.

· Select TECH 1 mode "F8", use arrow keys to increase and reduce engine speed.

Engine speed increases and decreases· Perform check step 05.

· Idling speed too high or unsteady.

· Intermittent contact in throttle position sensor

or

· Throttle stop screw setting incorrect

(see basic throttle setting)
